4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
UPDATED: SEP 9, 2010 Homer rating #1: bottle 3060/3708, among several others. black pour with a 1 finger brown head, 1/2 of which lingers nicely. huge bitter choclate and smoke aroma with hints of dried dark fruits and sweet malts, very nice. this has an uber creamy mouthfeel and very full body thats hangs on your tongue for a good while. big chocolate and caramel malt taste, with a hint of burgundy wine in the middle and a nice woody finish. very nice harmony between the oak and wine flavors, sweet malt flavors and bitter hopped chocolate. well balance, def santa fe’s best beer to date.
1-13-10 rerate: adjusted nose from 8 to 9.
9-8-10 rerate: adjusted from 4.5 to 4.9. i love this beer, and its undeniable that its aging terrifically. big, i mean huge tastes of smoke, peat, and grain, oily body and finish, very thick, drinking better than a lot of imperial stouts after 2.5+ years. very nice brew, i only hope to find more!

750 ml bottle (#2185 of 3708) I bought at Papago last year - Pours a dark brown color with a two finger thick dark tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma is dark esters and a bit of chocolate and alcohol. Flavor is full of dark esters, chocolate, molasses, light vanilla, and sweetened roasted malt. A very pleasant surprise. Finish is fairly smooth and a touch dry. I think a year in the bottle has done this beer wonders. Very nice.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of both sweet and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, alcohol that tickles the tongue, and roasted malt, leading to a dry bitter finish.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a dark brown with a small tan head that lasts a while and leaves wet lace. Light roasted malt and dark chocolate are the components of the aroma and flavor. A bit of coffee bitterness comes through on the finish. A little thin on the palate. Not a bad brew.
