2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Light amberish pour. White head. Soapy, hoppy aroma with a bit of grain and honey. Flavor is very benign. A little honey, little malt and some hops. Pretty damn bland.

This arrives topped by a pale tan colored head that is just about half a finger in height. The beer is an amber color that shows a clearíish copper hue to it when held up to the light. The aroma is somewhat hoppy smelling with a mix of grapefruit, light menthol, grassy pine and herbal notes. The finish of the nose has a touch of soap to it. If you really dig around you can find some notes of toasted grain and a hint of caramel maltiness.
The beer is nicely bitter, with pine like hop flavors from the beginning to the end of each sip. Actually, both of these become more prominent towards the finish. Some soap-like flavors and a body that is not quite big enough to stand up to the hop character are the most noticeable flaws in this brew. I find myself enjoying this less and less as I take each sip; thin, herbal, grassy and a way to subtle malt character that doesnít manage to play even the needed supporting role to the hops all sort of kill this for me. This isnít horrible, just way unbalanced.

1.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
I heard alot of "buzz" about this particular beer. So a friend and I went down to try it out. It smells heavily of high alpha hops. The first taste is extremely bitter, a bitter that follows you long after the finish your drink. My friend and I both grimaced at first taste it was so strong. A "good" IPA (if one truly exists) should balance bitter and sweet, this beer does not. The color is amber-red and it does maintain some head, but that quickly disspates. The texture is just extremely thin and astringent. I struggled to finish this pint.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: MAR 28, 2010 draft at papago...
dark amber colored pour with a soapy white head and lots of random splotchy lacing.
aromas of caramel, leafy hops, grass, honey and malt... only everything is faint and subdued.
the flavor is the same along with some wood, grain, meh and a dry lightly resinous finish. the aftertaste is lovely... piney, leafy and hoppy... too bad there is nothing leading up to it.
medium body with crisp carbonation though somehow not satisfying... very mediocre. 5/4/5/3/10/2.7
on tap again at papago2/4/10... very buttery and weird, out of balance, very floral and quite bitter...ick. 5/4/4/3/10/2.6

On tap at Papago. Pours clear gold with almost no head. The nose is malt, faint hops and spice. The taste is the same with some sweet grain mixed in. Medium mouthfeel. Not very good.

Tap @ Brewery. Amber body with off white head. Detected more malt and a roasty at that in the aroma and flavor. Heavy malt and not much citrus made this one little slugish and more like standard swill. Odd pale ale for me.
