Can split at Mother Arch, thanks to the Wingman, 03/01/15. Dark mahogany brown with reddish hues at the base of the glass, decent light tan covering. Nose is light roast, dark malt, cocoa rub, faint charring, brown bread, grain. Taste comprises light vanilla strokes, chocolate, dark malt, toffee, brown sugar. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok porter but lacks depth ABV considered.

Why are panthers the sexiest big cats? Sex Lion? Sex Tiger? Sex Cheetah? Sex Leopard? Sex Jaguar? Nothing. Sex Panther? Eight breweries have used the name. Not that Iím complaining. Pours black. (Oh, is *that* why?) Lots of chocolate. Search "Pantherman 1974" on youtube and it will all make sense.

Can pours brown/black with a beige head. Aroma is pretty tame with slight roastiness and a hint of underlying chocolate. Flavor shows chocolate and moderate roast (almost ashy). Overall body is much thinner than expected and finishes dry.

With all the hype and "double" in the name, I really expect a huge aroma, a massive head and lots of chocolate. None of the above. The aroma at the pour is minimal; toasty with little more than an unsweetened cocoa smell, backed by some hoppy herbal accents. The head is spectacular for about three minutes and then disappears into minimal khaki swirls on the surface. A small lacing on the glass proves it was there...once. The body looks light, thin; drops left on the top of the can could easily be Dr. Pepper, (I use it as a reference...my whole office drinks that crap), but for the lack of carbonation. The entire visual is proven in the first swallow, and sipping for the next few minutes proves the deep, rich, dark-caramel color is like a beautifully wrapped Christmas present with socks inside. :-( Boo. The taste is okay, a little bitter, but mostly just flat sweetness. The carbonation is not even average for this style; mostly flat and this brew is too light-bodied for that to be okay with me. The finish is somewhat bitter, dry, and leaves my mouth feeling as though there must have been at least SOME chalk in that glass with the beer. Not excited about this and am sad to say that I will not be purchasing this one again. I would give it another try if offered, but only because everyone deserves a second chance.
