COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
831 is a classic example of the modern American India Pale Ale. A simple malt bill provides a showcase for bold, citrus, dank hop flavors and enticing aromas. Each sip is clean and dry allowing for the pure expression of American grown hops including Magnum, Columbus, and Citra. Unabashedly aggressive and yet satisfying. 831 is our ode to the brash grace and herbal beauty of humulus lupulus.

Tasted at the 16th Bistro IPA Festival on April 6, 2013. This IPA pours a slightly cloudy orange gold color from the tap. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is fruity, sweet, floral and citrusy. A medium bodied IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal and citrusy. Nice balance. Decent carbonation. Medium to high bitterness. Nice residual bitterness. Slightly dry finish. Crisp and clean. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean, crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a thick white head. Aroma of grapefruit, tangerines and lemons. Taste is bitter citrus with a juicy sweet malt backbone. Really solid west coast style ipa.

Draft at SARA with Linh. Pours a bright golden body with white lacing. Aroma is fresh, dank hop, light pineapple, pine and additional fruits. Mouthfeel is medium / sessionable with notes of fresh pine, dank character, additional fruits and bright hop. A nice way to start the brewpub visit.

On draft at the brewery taproom. Slightly hazy golden Amber pour with a white head. Big dank hoppy nose. Huge hoppy goodness here in the taste. Bitter finish, lots of citrus and tropical melons kungfu fighting.

Draft at Sante Adairius. Very hazy orange gold, tiny head reduces to a ring. Huge green citrus tropical aroma, has this been wet-hopped? Tastes moderate sweet light caramel malt, big bitter, green unripe fruit, oranges and resin. Great, very green but nice.

750ml growler in a tulip. Pours hazy golden / amber with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of piney and resinous plus lightly citrusy (grapefruit mainly) hops, some pale and light caramel malts, and some dough. Flavor the same with great hoppiness but maybe slightly too bitter. Average texture. A really good IPA but maybe slightly too bitter.

Growler. Shared by Chris, thanks! Hazy golden with a small white head and little lacing. Aroma is of dank hops, pine resin, like citrus and biscuity malt. Taste is also of dank hops, herbalness, resin, biscuity malt, light citrusy notes and moderate bitterness. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Oily mouthfeel. Dry finish. Super dank. I’m not sure that I like the hops bill and a little more carbonation would have helped (but that most certainly because the growler traveled). Good IPA. Drinkable.

On draft at SARA. A ton of citrus hops up front in the nose. Very hazy orange pour. A moderately pithy bitterness to it with a moderate citrus hop flavor. Quenching, but lowly carbonated.

On tap at the brewery. Aroma is nice and hop forward, but not a one dimensional fruit character. Lots of tropical and stone fruit but also some grapefruit and pine resin. Light malt notes of cracker in the background. Pours a cloudy golden orange with a thin white head that recedes to the edges and lingers. Medium light lacing and faint legs. Flavor has a nice, light sweetness with medium light cracker malt notes. Moderately strong hop notes of stone and tropical fruit with lighter citrus character. Medium light pine resin with moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty nice, balanced IPA, but not the hop bomb that people expect these days. Really nice, fresh multidimensional hop character.

Growler shared by yourefragile. Thanks Michael. The beer has a hazy orange body and sports a half inch of white head. The nose brings dank hops along with prominent grapefruit and tangy citrus. oranges and hops. Juicy and delicious. Easy to drink, finishing dry with moderate bitterness. A solid IPA.
