831 is a classic example of the modern American India Pale Ale. A simple malt bill provides a showcase for bold, citrus, dank hop flavors and enticing aromas. Each sip is clean and dry allowing for the pure expression of American grown hops including Magnum, Columbus, and Citra. Unabashedly aggressive and yet satisfying. 831 is our ode to the brash grace and herbal beauty of humulus lupulus.

Cloudy yellow orang in color... Aroma of piney hops... Flavor was crisp, fairly hoppy up front but not terribly bitter on finish... Solid ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

At 99 Bottles in Santa Cruz. Cloudy yellowish colour, but treats like a good IPA. Nice and bitter.

On tap at Sante Adairius, pours a cloudy peachy blonde with a small white head. Aroma smells like a cross between a farmhouse ale and IPA, with herbal hops, farmhouse yeast, and pot. Flavour is similar, bringing out loads of piney hops, and intense herbal, pot-like hops. They’re not messing around here - a rather abrasive hempy IPA. Good stuff.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2015 Growler: Thanks, Steve! Golden body, bright & substantially hazy with a slightly off-white foamy, soapy head that leaves behind some patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma is loaded with pine, grapefruit peel, bitter citrus, hop oils & leaves... Very juicy, slightly pungent, & definitively hoppy. Not much malt at all, perhaps a touch of cracker. Taste is full of the same stuff; bitter pine notes, quite leafy with lots of mid-palate citrus, orange, & grapefruit pith. Finishing pungency with hop oils & very slight resin. Backbone of very pale cracker malt leads into a non-sweet, dry finish. Bitter but not annoyingly so. Very good IPA, no doubt.

1L growler thanks to Felipe. Pours a opaque glowing orange with a small white head that fades to nothing. Smell is huge juicy floral hops, hay, orange. Taste again juicy hops, Orange, pineapple, mango, and hay/straw. Nice subtle malt backbone that you hardly know is there. Low carb, but that could be due to the journey it just took. Great beer and I am glad I had a chance to try it.

On tap at Hog’s Apothecary, Oakland. Pours cloudy blonde with a rich off-white head and a citrus aroma. There is a hearty toffee flavor that slips easily into bitterness. Smooth and well-crafted.

Bottle shared at Sean’s Tasting (Ann Arbor, MI). Pours a nice more well hazed golden orange hue, a nicer glow, a bit deeper glow with some nice haziness. Frothy whitish head atop dies to a filmy layer, laces ok. Aromas are floral and citrus, a decent fruit kick. Florals, grass, and bready malts. A bit dry and bitter as it settles. Initial is lighter end of the fold, a nice floral kick with lemon, some grapefruit, and grass. Firm bitter and dry front end. Middle is a bit of citrusy kick, bigger florals. Touches of dryness, bready malts, and florals. Some mandarin orange, grapefruit and florals. A bit dry and bitter, nice florals, some powder and florals, some grass. Backend is dry, a bit of grapefruit rind and juice. Some nice kick on the finish, grapefruit and a touch of bubblegum, melon. Pretty solid.

On tap. Awesome aroma of tropical fruit and pine. Flavor is the same as the aroma with a nice lasting bitter finish.
