3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ineedbeer (181) - San Leandro, California, USA - APR 10, 2013
Aroma is rather fruity with lots of ripe berry notes, more raspberry than blueberry. Some light oak and tannic, vinous aromas as well. Faint darker malt character and some moderate red wine notes.
Pours a very murky brown with purple and red hues on the edges. Thick purplish red head that recedes quickly to the edges. Quite a bit of yeast and particulate matter; this is definitely a goopy beer.
Flavor has some sweet berry jam notes upfront with some lighter dark malt character. Mid palate you get some vinous notes and a moderate amount of red wine. In the finish is a bit of tart berry character, light bitterness and a touch of astringency.
Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. It finishes fairly dry for it's body and isn't sticky at all. Low, but present astringency and medium low alcohol warmth.
Overall an ugly beer but a pretty tasty one, especially if you like tart berries which I love. I really like the aroma and the flavor upfront, but the finishing note is a bit harsh as it lingers. There was almost an inch of sediment in this bottle.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 illidurit (1629) - Santa Cruz, California, USA - DEC 9, 2012
16e series bottle opened among friends and shared, with wonderful results! Pours a seductive brownish black with a purple sheen. Aroma is berry fruits and red wine. Flavor is a really nice complex blend of different elements. At first it’s light, moussey in body with a boysenberry note and a slight acidity. As it warms, everything comes together with a very forward red wine character (I’d argue the most prominent note in the beer), Belgian chocolate, cocoa, mild smoke, and berries. This was shared with a wine connoisseur, a stout-lover, and someone who doesn’t really like beer, and it was a unanimous hit.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 larryLSB (339) - La Selva Beach, California, USA - NOV 24, 2012
Bottle, at the brewery. Poured dark brown with a medium-dark, large tan head. Nose was fruity with hints of chocolate, taste was somewhat balanced with the fruit taking the lead. Not as boozy as expected, very drinkable with a nice long finish.
