COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Appreciation is a barrel-aged farmhouse ale fermented with boysenberries and our resident funk. After several months in red wine barrels, it has taken on a mouth-watering acidity, a whiff of the barnyard, and stronger aromas and flavors attributed to the fruit. Appreciation’s ruby red color entices, welcoming another sip, another clink of glasses with friends, another moment of contentment and contemplation. With gratitude, we humbly offer our appreciation. Sante!

Pour is bright ruby with a mostly white head. Nose has a ton of raspberry with a subtle balance of sourness and brett presence. Taste is similar but not super bright. Lots of raspberry, fair bit of brett and notes of vanilla. Short finish, hints of bitterness, nice carb and light body.

Bottle. Released May 2013. Hazy, dull strawberry/guava juice color. Smells sour for sure.. Aromas of delicate tart, dusty strawberries and raspberries, intermingled with hints of spicy, damp red wine barrel, lacto, citrus and fair amount of funk. TART, DRY and mouthwatering on the palate. Fine, creamy, medium carbonation that lasts throughout bottle. Flavors of TART red fruits, citrus, lacto and funky yeast. Overall a simple, yet complex sour beer, that is refreshing, tart and enjoyable. Glad I got to try this for sure! --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

In short: A funky-lactic and tart ale with lots of sweet red fruits. Very good.
How: From a bottle at Hill Farmstead FoFA 2013.
The look: Cloudy bright red body topped by a small white head.
In long: The powerful nose has plenty of berries along with a strong farmhouse character. Inviting aroma. In mouth the beer has a soft medium body, a juicy texture, a relaxed carbonation, an adequate mouthfeel for the style. Taste blends farmhouse character, lactic funk (borderline yogurt), fruity raspberry-like tartness, acidity and lots of sweet berries. The overall sweetness sesnsation was similar to maraschino cherries. A very good beer that could have been excellent with more attenuation, a personal preference here. A good beer but it doesn’t explain why my wife is so obsessed with it, I need to get her some bottles because every day she reminds me I need to show her some Appreciation, it’s been a whale for her years before the beer was even released.

Bottle shared by Alan on Christmas. Pours hazy cranberry red with small head and random lacing. Notes are tart raspberry, barn, acidic funk, strawberry seeds cherries, oak, and lemon skin. The pucker creeps on you, candy funk yo. Thit, a little thin but no worries, smell and taste is that sour candy straw goodness.

shimmering ruby, thin large bubbled white head. Muted thin cherry nose, lightly pithy with buttery oak emerging. Rubbery flavor, cherry and fusel hints, heavy seed bitterness with incredibly short bitter finish.

Ruby pour, small white head. Nose is refined,m pleasant, raspberries maybe? Flavor is more red berries, very seed heavy, some vanilla, short finish with lots of bitter, twiggy berry seeds in finish. Nice and integrated overall, pleasant berry, vanilla, oak, funk. Acidity is low, thankfully. Pleasant, quite good.

750ml bottle... Pours an attractive shade if raspberry red, softer edges, and topped with a soapy white head... Soft red berries, not totally assertive, but def not to be missed. Slight funk and mild sourness. Solid but a little calmer compared to west Ashley. Still very solid... Berry lactic sourness. Solid with a slight husk grain backend. Some lemony sourness to mesh with the berries. Really nicely executed.

From notes on 8/11/2013; poured from bottles by the SARA crew at the HF FoFA.

Ruby red body. Bright raspberry / blackberry fruity aroma. Smooth, crisp, pungent fruit & sourness blend in harmony. Not jammy; this is more delicate than that. Superb.
