3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewery. Aroma is mainly dark chocolate, with an ashy grain note and some vague fruitiness. Flavor is rich coffee bean, cocoa and cacao. Not a sweet beer at all. Dark black coffee and roasted grains. Finishes a little chalky along with expected bitterness.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap. Pours opaque black with a medium creamy Tamm head that dissipates leaving nice lacing. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, coffee, bit of ashtray. Flavor is the same, roasty with baking chocolate notes, plus some cigarette. Lightly sweet, light bitter. Medium plus body, creamy. Lingering finish of semi sweet chocolate. Pretty darn good for a simple stout

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Half pour at the brewery this weekend. I know it sounds like I’m copying Adam’s review down there, but this beer really is damn delicious. Aroma isn’t out of this world, but very delicate and balanced: light coffee, light roasted malts and bitter dark chocolate. Light oat/wheat character as well. The beer pours nearly black with a big tan fluffy head that sticks around for the entire glass. Great head retention and nice rings of lace as the beer goes down. Taste is a great balance of an oats, wheat, milk chocolate and light coffee grounds/roast. Body is pretty full, very silky with nice carbonation that doesn’t dry out the tongue as some roasty stouts tend to do. Finish is lovely chocolate, and oats. I know the beer is made with wheat, but there are plenty of characteristics that remind me of oatmeal stouts. However, the balance is far better than most bottles readily available. Crazy good sessionable stuff.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the brewery.
Aroma is very roast forward with a nice coffee note. As it warms a nice chocolate note becomes more noticeable. Nice wheat character compliments and smooths the edges of the roast.
Pours a dark brown, but not quite black with a moderately sized dark tan head of moderate thickness. Good head retention, slowly receding to the edges where it lingers along with a thin film on top. Moderate lacing and faint legs.
Flavor is similar to the aroma, but the roast is much less prevalent and is instead more of a background and mid palate note. Lots of nice wheat character and nice chocolate notes.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and very creamy with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth.
Overall a very enjoyable stout that shows how wheat can smooth out roast character. Nice chocolate character as it warms.
