Blurring the line between beer and wine, this barrel-aged blend clocks in at 8.1% abv and is full of roasty, tart, tobacco, and leather notes, tempered by a solid malt backbone which provides for a wonderfully silky mouth-feel.

On tap at Bistro BA Fest poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of grape, tobacco, vanilla, toffee, light roastiness and light oak. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, toffee, tobaccvo, fruittiness, oak and light vinous notes with a crisp dry lingering tobacco finish.

Tasting at Matt’s
Dark brown color with sparse head. Intense aroma of dark malts, moderately sour, but also with a dusty note. Good body strength, yet the carbonation keeps the mouthfeel lean; a bit chocolately, and wisely sour; the final is drier and just a bit astringent.

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with an amber tinge and a small beige head. Aroma brings out dark dried fruit, tobacco, tartness, and leather. Flavour is very complex, with leather and tobacco upfront, with some roast and light tart dark fruits. Very elegant and complex, with everything in perfect balance. Excellent beer.

What the Funk, Denver, October 2014. Pours a darkish red brown appearance with a thin brown head. Twangy, somewhat funky flavor. Fairly roasty and fairly hoppy. There’s also some additional tannins and a bit of leather. A little bit of spiciness in the background as well. I wasn’t a huge fan of this but others at the festival did really enjoy it.

From bottle at What the Funk?!? - GABF 2014. Pour is murky brown with a small tan head and sticky lacing. roasty, coffee, dark berries, somewhat tannic, grapey and oaky aroma. Taste is sour grapes, light espresso, toasted malty, tangy, heavy oak, blueberry, and spice with a medium sour finish. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Definitely hit the mark for what they were going for and an excellent beer.
