Bottle shared with Mark and Al. Pours black with beige head. Medium to heavy carbonation on a medium body. Notes are dark cherry, tobacco, wood, acidic funk, and Brett. not enough rum in this one. Also, it was more of a sour than a stout. Weird.

Tasting at Chriso, thanks to Bruce, 10/07/14. Light black/extremely dark mahogany brown with a good sized tan covering. Nose is earthy, light roast, cocoa nibs, tangy dark berries, raisens, spice, fruit cake. Taste comprises light booze, subtle roast, tarte berry, lactic tang, earthy cocoa, dark toffee, dates, cake mix. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok tangy fruit impy.

Forgetfu Tasting at ChrisOs. Opaque black - brown beer, good fluffy pale tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry. Light fine carbonation. Light roast malt, touch of dark chocolate. Medium tangy souness with mild dark fruits. Light semi dry finish. Tasty enough but yet to taste a great sour stout.

Bottle thanks to Bruce! It pours near black with a thick tan head. The nose is roasted malt, toast, creaminess, milky, mild acidity, cocoa and some jammy fruits. The taste is crisp, tart, toasty, roasted malt, cocoa, earth, some acidity, sherbet and granny smith apple with a tart, somewhat acidic finish. Medium+ body and moderate carbonation. I am not sold on the sour stout style, but this is pretty tasty anyhow.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Bruce. Pours black-brown with a creamy, beige head. Some acetic berries in the nose, hints of wood, earth. Light to medium sweet flavor with loads of berry tang, grapes, mild earthy bitterness, burnt wood, faint cocoa. Medium to full bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Warming finish with decent acetic tang, more berries, vague roast and cocoa, low bitterness, wood. Not bad.

Dark brown pour with a tan head. The aroma has some rum notes as well as some some tart cherry character. The flavor is similar. The cherry notes are complemented by some dark grape notes. I also get some roasted malt, chocolate, rum, spice and light tartness. Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle@ a mini SARA share - thanks Nolen! Pours opaque black with a small tan head and good lacing. Aroma has a bit of funk, and lots of roastiness underneath. Perhaps a touch of coffee, a bit of raisin. I am not getting the chocolate that others notice. Flavor is medium sweet, lightly funky and medium sour. Funkiness opens up a bit as the beer warms. Lightish body, high effervescent carbonation. Nice beer.

Bottle @ What the Funk Denver 2014. Pours a black appearance with a thin brown head. Kind of a strange beer but quite good. You can definitely get the rum and its spiciness in the nose. There’s also some chocolate and roast and mild caramel. Also some dark grape and plum notes. The flavor is fairly tart and tannic. Some plum and berry fruit notes in the flavor. A little boozy but the rum complements the beer surprisingly well. Way better than I expected.

Pour from bottle at What the Funk!? 2014. Appearance is deep brown with a frothy tan head and great lacing. Roasty, tannic, red grapes, fruit peel, oaky, red wine vinegar and oaky aroma. Taste is tangy, vinegar, light roast, coffee, cocoa, cherry pit, plum, and dates with a medium sour finish. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Very solid dark sour - which isn’t my favorite style to put it nicely. Good stuff.
