3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Rib Eye (144) - USA - MAY 9, 2002
A good full-flavored dark beer. Excellent with Japanese noodles. Good luck finding it.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Brian (145) - Ontario, CANADA - FEB 28, 2002
This one had my ratings all over the map. Opaque appearance, with a weak, slightly fizzy brown head. Somewhat carbonated taste as well. Aroma is a bit off, though a strong burnt flavor coming through. Not as complex as your usual Schwarzbier (or Stout) but quite enjoyable if you can get by its weak points.

Black. Somewhat sweetish with burnt flavours. Rather bitter.
2.4 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 BuzzBeer99 (81) - Oklahoma, USA - FEB 6, 2002
Smells like it was poured through a dirty gym sock into the can. Tastes much better than I expected. Not a true schwarzbier but who cares. Worth trying, which is a lot more than I can say about other sapporo’s.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20 MOboy (503) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - JAN 31, 2002
Stout my black ass! Ok, it looks like a stout, but that is about as far as it goes. I definately did not like the smell of this one and the taste is of a weak schwarzbier. Oh yeah, why the hell is it so damn bubbly?! I’ll take the Grand Reserve anyday. (The can still kicks ass though)
3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 KenoTheDog99 (12) - USA - DEC 15, 2001
It’s no Guinness, but decent.
3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheDarkertheBetter99 (27) - Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, USA - DEC 5, 2001
Schwarzbier, huh? Looks like a stout, but drinks like an Orberdorfer. So carbonated I burped like I was drinking American piss beer like Miller or something. Not a bad flavor. A bit thin. Decent. Hard to find.

This is good stuff! I’d much rather pull this out of the cooler than a Bud when I want a beer for the road.
