I admit this is a sentimental choice, but most of you all never had this beer in Japan, and let me tell you... if you grew up in Tokyo you would rate it the same way. Sapporo will always hold an important place in my heart right next to my first love, my friends who are no longer with us, and string cheese.

Poured from the bottle. A rather malty smelling and tasting beer. Not good, not bad, mediocre beer.

Can, shared by me... in the library... just now.
Pours a pale golden color, perfectly clear with lots of little bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass, it’s got a very well retained and attractive fluffy white head.

The aroma is a little tinny and mostly sweet & doughy with a little bit of herbal character to it.

The flavor is fine, I mean it tastes like a above average industrial lager. It’s got a nice bit of herbal bitterness and a pretty defined rice flavor, it’s a touch sweet... but not horribly so, it’s also got a mild fruitiness to it. Honestly the hop character here really carries this beer, it’s pleasant and bitter and just mutes some of the less desirable flavors a touch.

A nice big can without information about the hops and malts. A golden clear beer without character with a nice white head, the body is thin, light bitter, no smell, no finish, (I have a 0.65l can with batch 0127 and best-before date 16OCT16.)

Bottle, clear amber, big white rocky head. Aroma pale malt, faint fruit. Taste is malt, faint vegetable. Palate light, carbonation moderate

Pleasant surprise, if I was gonna drink a lager this would be a perfect choice. From a large can, perfect carbonation and head, a bit of bitterness. Just nice.

Japanese beer brewed under licence in Canada for EU market distributed by English company... WTF? Looks nice, smell bad, taste watery. Bleh.

12 oz bottle. Poured a clear straw yellow with a thin white head. Taste of rice adjunct, very subtle toasted malt with a slight stringency. Well carbonated, thin body.

hauxe (265) - Butzbach, GERMANY - MAR 29, 2016
Rated from old notes. Pours from a can that looks like a mortar shell. No head at all. A foul smell greets the nose, unfortunately not better described in the notes. Very low carbonation and flat near the end. Body is thin and light, taste is grainy and rather bland but not altogether unpleasant. Best had cold and with food.

Bottle in Japanese restaurant. I would rate it as an above-average lager, better than the other Japanese lagers I’ve tried because of slightly lower carbonation and a bit more texture. Drank it after an Asahi and thought it was much better. Still, obviously don’t expect fireworks...

UPDATED: APR 6, 2016 Another good lager form Japan. Lager is really the worst type of beer, but obviously not if it comes from Japan. Enjoyable and without bad aftertaste which is a trade mark for Lager beers. Perfect with variety of food, even sushi goes well.
