Presentation: It was poured from a tall 22oz can into a mug. The can offers a very brief description but no freshness date or abv. Appearance: The pour produces a tall white head over a deep golden body with excellent clarity. The head slowly fades and just keeps a small cap tight foam till the last sip. It also makes some cool lace pattern on the glass. Smell: It has a raw grain with a straw and light floral like hop bouquet. Overall it’s light, simple and very clean. Taste: The flavor profile has the same clean grain and straw/floral hop mix with a dry biscuity finish. Its light to body is refreshing and well carbonated. Notes: It’s a good clean lager and an uplifting palate cleanser opposite my pineapple fried rice.

otakuden (1490) - Vero Beach, USA - FEB 3, 2011
Appearance: clear straw with some gold mixed in. bubbly head disappears fast. Swirls with more bubbles which disappear equally fast, lingering only with a meager bubbly collar.
Nose: bright, masks aromas. Eventually dredge up bread crusts, whisper of lemon and banana. Finishes briny with mineral qualities.
Palate: much like the nose, bright from start to finish. Bready in the middle with dry crusts while the dough creeps into the finish for a bit of tastebud deceiving fullness. Salt in the finish each and every time. Lemon peel along the edges, a touch dry and waxy. Overall hardness to the flavors which hint at minerals.
Final Thoughts: meh. There used to be a time where I enjoyed Sapporo and if I had to I’d probably drink it again. Maybe. Or not. Too bad some of their more flavorful brews don’t make it to the states. Overall average and that’s not saying much.

At a friend’s party. Pours extremely pale with a white head. Aroma is very weak. Taste is extremely thin. In general, I don’t have a problem with Japanese macro-lagers, but maybe I had my hopes too high for this. Somehow this beer wasn’t watery but was thin never the less. Of course it was perfectly drinkable with no offensive notes to speak of, but it really did not have much in the way of taste either.

bottle: clear golden pour. Tastes like it has a bit of age. grainy, rice and adjunct notes, caramel, a little charred. smooth, sugary some fruity notes and a hint of hop spice. Not bad, would have been better fresh.

Limited on time and cold choices I gave this beer a go. By no means those this beer past for a good beer, but is an upgrade to most of the commercial lagers or pilsners. First taste was surprisingly more complicated than I would have guessed bit finished with s light blandness
