Aroma: vanilla, cocoa, malt
Taste: Initially mild cocoa with some increase of bitter chocolate on the mid-palate and finish.
Sapporo tends to go for smooth, inoffensive flavors and palate with little or no bitterness, so this fits into their flavor profile. No point in making a "beer" (actually happoshu as sugars are added) like this except to sell it to Japanese college girls who hate beer. Instead of drinking this stuff, just make a good cup of cocoa and add a little cream to boost the body.
For a real beer that has complex chocolate flavors, try Brooklyn Brewery’s Black Chocolate Stout.

Pretty much black in color with a mid-size tan head. Sugary sweet chocolate aroma with molasses and vanilla, too. Medium bodied. Powerful chocolate with a very sweet malt and molasses background. Eventually, this one finishes with some faint dark chocolate bitterness. Interesting.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Jukkabro (3486) - Tampere, FINLAND - FEB 15, 2010
Deep dark red-brown colored, little beige head. Aroma is nothing but sweet cacao-chocolate. Thin to medium bodied. Same goes to flavor, not much but overwhelming chocolate and cacao, aftertaste dries, but only mildly. Hard to rate.

Can.
Aroma of dark chocolate, cream, and some dark malts. Lots of chocolate overwhelming all else, but not unpleasant. Black with a medium tan head, quickly shrinking. Flavor of well roasted malts and chocolate. Bitter and burnt, but with a creamy, chocolate ice-cream quality. Sweet as well, with a good deal of fruit and a bit of tartness. Not terrible, but a little much. Rather heavy and thick body. Altogether not bad, though a bit too sweet. Bitter, roasted finish helps.

Can. Pours a dark brown with tannish to light brown head. Strong chocolate aroma with a hint of bitter coffee. Flavor is of sweet chocolate malts. Almost tastes like a cola. A bit too sweet for my tastes, but it’s OK.
