2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 10/20 Jimthechap (1195) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - SEP 13, 2012
I just saw my last Japanese premium lager rating and to be honest I’m not especially optimistic. It looks like most other premium lagers only with a touch more haze. It smells like most other premium lagers too. Mainly lager malt and very little hopping. Cool and prickly in the mouth, samey-samey golden lager flavour. Nothing terribly special, but not unpleasant either.
2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 JEK69 (356) - FRANCE - SEP 12, 2012
We organized a very interesting tasting of Lagers (basic to average quality): 16 different beers from different countries. Price range: from EUR 0.3/bt (supermarket) to EUR 3.5/bt (take-away at sushi bar). All beers have been blind-tasted; we were 4 people, great beer lovers and wanted to know If there is a difference between all these basics summer beers. Answer: no, all were more our less watery, the worst were shit.
Sapporo Yebisu was the best one.
Here is the ranking: #1 Sapporo Yebisu #2 Baltika 3 #3 Duff #4 Obolon Svitle #5 Svyturys Ekstra Draught #6 Heineken #7 Kirin Ichiban #8 1664 #9 Carlsberg #10 Burger #11 Kronenbourg #12 Pilsner Urquell #13 Königsbacher #14 33 Export #15 Tsingtao #16 Asahi
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Cristobal37 (101) - Canyon Lake, California, USA - AUG 7, 2012
Clearly others are not pairing. This dry toasty beer is meant to be paired with rice and fish. Not only is the mouth feel paramount to enjoying your meal and beer but the carbonation and crispiness aid digestion. Smooth creamy beer which outperforms nearly all of its competition. See you at the (sushi) bar.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 WVHouseofBeer (701) - Kissimmee, Florida, USA - AUG 3, 2012
Eh I guess this is better than the other Japanese macro lagers but it’s still nothing special. Very light flavors and aromas of grains and malts.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 madmitch76 (9867) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JUN 19, 2012
17th June 2010 You know what it looks like! Semi dry and lightly crisp palate. Creamy malt. Trace of hop. A bit metallic. Just another bland lager, but nowhere near the worst.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 tmrmwel (510) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 7, 2012

Somewhat better than usual Japan lagers but still light bodied and thin taste. Disappointing.
2.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 ncube (35) - - APR 28, 2012
Honey gold with white head that dissipates to lacing fairly quickly. Grassy, sweetly rotting fruit aroma. Upfront tastes of sweet pale malt, sulpher notes coming in, getting more sweet and bitter, then shifting more to bitterness. Lingering mild bitterness remains after semi dry finish.
Drink it cold, drink it fast.
