During the war, they never stopped brewing this beer. Not in 4 years of siege. No petrol, bullets, food, women or children, no army, no help from the UN, no heating through 4 Balkan winters. But no surrender. And the brewery, right on Franjevachka Street, never stopped brewing this stuff. A proper heroes' drink.

Can (500ml bought in Sarajevo):
Sweet, syrup like aroma to begin with along with some corn and basic lager hops. There is some lager malts too and hints of grain but this one is fairly standard with nothing too exciting going on.
Light, golden straw colour with a thumb sized, bubbly white head that slowly reducing in size to a fairly thin lacing.
Lighter than a typical pale lager with a sweet flavour lingering in the background along with some bread and before rounding it off with some lager malts, a touch of grassy hops and a little citrus finished with a mild bitter tang.
Smooth with a touch of stickiness right at the end, there is also strong carbonation from this one and a light yet refreshing finish to it. Quite sweet but nothing sickening.
I enjoyed this beer more than you would expect from a pale lager, even straight from the can this was a good beer but its main selling has got to be how easy it is to drink and how refreshing it is.

Egész jó kis söröcske, testes, kesernyés, akárcsak egy cseh pils. Bravo!

Bottle. [thank you srdjan]. Pours a very pale golden with a thin white film head. Aroma is soft, lightly grassy hoppy. Mouthfeel is light, but not watery. Flavour has a general malty background, but also has a quite nice peppery, citric bitterness. God pilsner.

Can. Tried whilst on holiday in Croatia August 2012..Slightly hazy yellow appearance with low carbonation. Slightly dry but generally easy to forget.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUL 23, 2010 A perfectly decent and consistent brew when tasted in Sarajevo. Comparable to a 10% extract Czech brew with a lighter touch of hop. Quite pale in color, but fiercely beloved by the locals--who are repaying the debt from when the Sarajevska Brewery had the only available drinking water during the Siege.
A genuinely respectable pivo.
