Has a very strong chocolate taste. Other unrecognizable roasted flavors are in this brew. Actually enjoyed this a lot.

Pours a coppery black with a medium tan head. Little aroma, mostly malt. Notes of chocolate and roasted malt up front, bit of a sweet caramel aftertaste. One of saranac better dark beers

12 ounce bottle with a best before date of March 31, 2014, one of my friends gave this to me last week. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown with an inch tan head. Head retention is good, and there’s a decent amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like milk and bittersweet chocolate, roasted malt, char, and some coffee. I think the taste is just like the aroma, but the roasty/char flavor is the strongest. Mouthfeel/body is light, it seems thin for a porter. With that being said, it is pretty easy to drink. Overall I liked this brew, it’s a good roasty porter that hopefully I’ll get to try fresher sometime.

Pours from the bottle with a rich, opaque, dark-chocolate brown color. The aroma is dominated by milk chocolate, but there are also some oaty grains and a little vanilla. The flavor is the liquid equivalent of burnt toast, though, with a grainy, assertive bitterness that overwhelms the chocolate. Even if they were going for a robust porter, there is too much over-roasted character to be enjoyed.

Bottle. I give it credit for a nice roasty layer on top, but underneath it seems slightly empty, as though they didn’t use enough malts in between 2-row and chocolate malt. On the dry side.

From bottle. Roasty, toasty, scorched malt notes. Nutty with vanilla and light hops. Dark brown-black with creamy light tan lacing head. Medium body and carbonation. Starts medium dry with roasted barley, chocolate, vanilla, and light smoke. Medium bitter hops at the finish, with carbonic tang. Nutty bitter after.

bottle thanks to cheap (thanks buddy). Another pleasant surprise, pours a dark black. aroma of slight chocolate and coffee. balanced off slightly, some bitterness and malt, (little hops flavor) thin feel, lacking a bite from a porter. But, easy to drink and pleasant.

Bottle, BB Mar 31, 2014. Nose is heavily roasty with some chocolate, ash and even some tar in their, really nice and sultry. Even has some light hops for accent. Deep brown-black pour with a light brown head. Taste with nice ash and wood, roast backed off a ton but the small level of fruitiness allowed to rise. Some coffee still but faint, and chocolate. Low bitterness with a touch of astringency that is really only noticeable in the long finish. Clean with a clean yeast, the big problem is that the body is very watery and somewhat flat; there are style arguments to be made, I suppose, but even a little more body/malt feel would go a long way. An otherwise fine porter!

Bottle. Milk chocolate malt and light ash aroma. Dark brown with moderate tan head. Dark chocolate malt and mildly bitter herbal flavor. Pretty good.
