WillieV (158), Maryland, USA Apr 11, 2008 Bottle: A dark brown pour with a very thin light brown head. Pretty strong scent of chocolate and coffee. Taste is a great mixture of both.
bubbleflubber (647), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Aug 10, 2008 Pours a deep prune-mahogany into the glass, with a minimal off-white head that diminishes, leaving light soapy lace. Lightly smoked, roasted malts to the nose. This seems more of a stout than a true ’Black and Tan’... Roasted malts upfront, with some slight esters mid-palate, and finishes with pure smoke. No real bitters present, per se, but decently integrated nonetheless. Easily drinkable, with a light creamy mouthfeel (a bit thin) and decent carbonation levels, which makes it somewhat lively. Lots of smoke and roasts in the aftereffects, and lasts on the palate for some time. Decent. AskForJenny (429), Ontario, New York, USA Aug 5, 2008 12oz - Dark brown liquid under light tan head. No nose, no real palate. Lame. nuplastikk (403), Maryland, USA Aug 2, 2008 12oz bottle. I hold a special place in my heart for Saranac Black and Tan, and sentimentalities aside, I still think it’s a pretty good beer. Rich and roasty, with a nice malt backbone that really shines. Moderate alcohol content makes it quite poundable. I commend Saranac for this classic, somewhere in between a Schwarzbier, Dunkel, and a Stout. smjohnst (111), , Pennsylvania, USA Aug 2, 2008 This is an ok beer. It has a bit of a watered down taste to it. It is very similar to Yuenglings black and tan. auderale (466), Fairchild AFB, Washington, USA Jul 27, 2008 Bottle: Black colored pour with little to no head. Sweet coffee, roasted malts aroma. Bitter, malty flavor. This was ok.
