COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
On a cold winter’s night, black bears can be found hiding in the Adirondacks to keep warm, while you’re enjoying a beer by the fire. Saranac Black Diamond Bock is a rich malty beer, brewed with traditional German malts and hops then cold fermented and lagered for a smooth malty taste. This brew is appropriate for hibernating wherever you may be. Cheers!

Bottle @ home picked up at Supermarket Fort Collins. Pours a touch hazy, dark orange appearance with a foamy, cream colored head. Quite roasty, nutty, caramel malty, slightly minearlic aroma. Mild chocolate, burnt toffee/caramel malty, nutty, somewhat metallic/mineral-like flavor. I’m not a big fan of this one.

Pours caramel into the glass, with a light head that leaves soapy lacing. The nose is a bit nutty and of light dough. Flavors are similar, nutty, caramel, some legumes. light biscuit notes, backed with a light hopping and nutty finish to the pull. The mouthfeel is light with semi-active carbonation, not "watery" but not overtly complex. Not bad, just nothing uber exciting here.

Bright, clear copper color. Hints of sweet malt and spicey fruit on the nose. Rather thin and shallow flavor. Some fruitiness and hop flavor, pleasing but too light. A little of that nasty mineral-lager finish, but then just dry.

Bottle from Winter Variety Pack. The aroma is sweet malt, light roast, distant milk chocolate. Pretty tame. Medium bodied, sweet and malty with light chocolate. Very slight bitterness on the finish. Finishes abruptly and cleanly.

Lightrider (184) - Bristol, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 6, 2013
Bottle into a goblet. Pour is an amber gold with a fine head. Taste is a nice warm malt with a bitter under tone, co2 is low. Aroma is that of caramelized malt, and sweetness. Finish has body and is clean. Good Lager

kramer (3876) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 3, 2013
Bottle. Pours a clear light amber body with a small fizzy off white head that fell to a thin film. The nose is pretty off for the style as far as what I’m looking for in a Bock. It’s very thin and has a good bit of crystal malt ice tea notes. Couldn’t guess the style from the aroma if my life depended on it. The flavor is just as bad as far as style goes. Overly sweet with crystal malt dominating everything. This is just awful for a Bock.

Reasonably malty with a smooth-drinking quality that makes me suspicious of the scale of brewing. Overall, not much to object to, but little of interest to set this beer apart.

It pours a gentle dark brown and leaves a half inch milky white head. Some spider web lacing is left here and there. The smell has chocolate, coffee and malts up front combined nicely. The taste is sweet between the previously mentioned flavors, the coffee part adds a tad of bitterness, nicely balanced. The palate is light to medium with nothing harsh on the tongue. This is fairly drinkable. It leaves a bland aftertaste and a sticky finish. Overall, this is an average bock.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. The color is nice with its medium amber-reddish tone with small head. The aroma is of toast, burnt caramel malts or toffee, bread, but little to no hop note. The body is slick and medium. There is a slightly more noticeable sweetness in the taste at first and a low bitterness at the end with basically no lingering quality. Nothing special.

smells of spice and alchohol. Pours golden with a fizzy, lingering head. Tastes of sweet toffee, caramel and spice. Smooth drink with a touch of carbonation.
