Saranac Black Forest

Pours deep beer bottle brown with a thin slightly tan head that lasts for a while and leaves a slight lacing. Aroma is odd; berries and plums with some lemon and straw. Flavor is much the same with some grassy hops and some black pepper over a penny for the finish. Mouthfeel is thin, and a bit on the astringent side. Overall not too shabby, but I will probably pass over it in the future.

Thought I’d like this best of the saranacs, but was deeply disappointed. Tastes dirty, tinny and palate is watery and thin. Aroma is not too bad, some fruit and roasty malt. Yet it made the actual drinking that much more of a disappointment. Didn’t finish this one.

Bottle courtesy of orcasteve. Pours black, creamy beige head. Aroma of dark fruits. Taste, dark fruits, malty, medium carbonation, watery aftertaste. Not a bad schwarzbier, too close to many basic German counterparts.

Big brown coarseish head. Black opaque body is just barely translucent dark red. Malty sugary aroma with medicinal notes of raisins and licorice. Dryish-sweetish papery medicinal licorice taste with dried plum notes. Hollow-bodied, kind of watery. Dry papery peppery licorice aftertaste. Some grassy hops, too. Too thin and watery. Clear brown with medium beige head. Sweet flavour with with roasted malt, breadish and caramel notes. Finishes sweet.
