tagz (296), USA Mar 6, 2008 bottle. pours dark brown with a thin tan head. molasses on the nose. quite watery and highly carbonated. the dark malts and caramel that i can detect are pushed back by the poor palate. it is slightly metallic as well. saranac has better.
bubbleflubber (645), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Aug 5, 2008 Pours the deepest mahogany-prune into the glass, with a diminishing off-white head that leaves trace lace. Aromas are weak, but predominate with roasted malts. Some roasts in the flavor, some dry malts, but with such lively carbonation levels and thinning mouthfeel, I never really get any "substance" to this Schwarz. Pretty much dry and roasted characters in the finish, but brings out a weird metallic contingency. It drinks cleanly enough, just not a lot of distinguishing aspects. AskForJenny (421), Ontario, New York, USA Aug 5, 2008 12oz - Dark brown liquid under light brown head, no nose, some malt on palate but quite watery. Don’t waste your time. Palidor19 (1231), Brandon, Florida, USA Aug 4, 2008 not bad, its got some mild flavor even for a dark beer, the palate is a touch thin and the malts are not too heavy but its well worth your time. thejoeshow (88), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Aug 4, 2008 1 qt growler. Pours a deep dark brown with almost amber highlights and a very frothy tan head with great retention and lacing. Aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate and caramel malts. Very pleasant. Flavor it rich, with hints chocolate and coffee, but not enough to dominate. The after taste is of burnt coffee. There are lots of roast and sweet notes. Very smooth and full. This so far has been my favorite from the Saranac label. alexkeil (14), USA Aug 1, 2008 This is my favorite Saranac brew: dark copper color, pleasant aroma, deep flavor that finishes slightly sweet, slight taste of caramel, and a smooth mouthful - and you can purchase it in Saranac’s special growler
