Redish dark brown colour with pale brown head, that’s fluffy. Toast malts in aroma, well accompanied bt earthy hops at low levels. Slightly acidic, maybe from the dark malts. Silky mouthfeel, and good dry with gentle hop backup. Not very much of caramel here. Clean as it should be, with a suggestion of salmiak. No bitterness. Pretty long in finish.
BeerFanDan17 (331), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA Jul 21, 2008 Very dark and malty. Sweet like molasses and maple. Drinkable. Sampled at the St. Pete Florida Craft Beer Fest. timsilvia32 (116), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Jul 20, 2008 Poured black/brown, good sized cream head. Light roast aroma. Smooth mouthfeel. Roasted malt and coffee, just a hint of sweetness that finishes pretty clean. Has more body than some of Matt’s other brews, pretty good example of a schwarzbier. This is one of their more respectable beers. Snoop59 (14), Penn Run, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 18, 2008 32 oz.growler. Pours a deep dark brown, almost black, with monstrous tan head that diminishes quickly but lasts throughout as a thin layer. Fair to good lacing. Aroma is of subtle roasted malt. Initial flavor is slightly sweet with a hint of roasted coffee. Finish is somewhat sour, dry, and of short duration. Light, dry bodied with soft carbonation. rocbyter (594), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA Jul 8, 2008 Light malt aroma. Clear amber color with some white foam. Lightly sweet in the beginning with a mild malt bitterness in the finish. graham515 (279), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 24, 2008 Pours a dark brownish black into the glass with a nice tan head. Aroma is sticky and sweet with some burnt chocolate notes to it. The flavor is rich but still refreshing with plenty of malty goodness. I really really liked this beer
