COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Caramel malt sweetness and trademark rich, creamy head. A fitting homage to our Grandfather’s apprenticeship at the Duke of Baden’s brewery in Germany’s Black Forest region.

12oz served in a Sam Adams Perfect Pint. A - Pours a clear dark russet brown with a 1 finger mocha head that forms a tight bubbled cap. One long streak of horizontal lacing that looked like a skinny dinosaur. S - Dark caramel malt, dried grain, cherry and berry fruit, lager yeast, fruit bread. T - Roasted caramel malts, tangy sweetness, dried grass, chalky lager yeast, matches the nose, the cherry fruit is mixed in with the malt creating a fruit bread flavor, some hops wick away some of the sweetness. Finishes semi dry with compliments of fruit and slightly bitter and roasted malts. M - Moderate carbonation, fuller body for the style, somewhat velvety but sticky at times, wet upfront but finishes semi dry. Very fruity for the style. Had a nice roundness of roast and bitter to battle the sweetness. Decent mouthfeel too. Not bad. Not something I would seek out but I’m glad I had a chance to try this out. pours clear light brown with a light beige head, some retention. caramel, fruitiness, spices, bit of nuts, hint of sweetness, some coffee berries, dried molasses, treacled caramel. average carbonation, light body - never watery, short grassy-peppery finish. not reinventing - true to style - well executed. nice balance and dry crisp mouthfeel. quenching.

A run of the mill beer. Somewhat dark bland and entirely forgettable beer with woody undertones. So par for the course from Saranac.

Scrapersnbeer (1019) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 28, 2013
Roasty malt with some hints of licorice and rooty spices. Reddish black pour, like a cherry soda maybe. Sweet taste like black coffee with brown sugar. Body is on the lighter, stiller side. For better or worse, a beer the brewer is known for.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Pours black (cola like) with a thick beige head that leaves lots of lacing. Not much on the nose, mostly caramel notes/roasted malts. Taste is sweet caramel, roasty tones, perhaps a bit watery although it does has a slight bitterness towards the end. Easy drinker... OK beer.

Pours a dark red with frothy head. Aroma is full of caramel and sweet roasted malts. The taste is very sweet with a bit of a sick;ly sweet finish. I have always been a fan of this beer but I can see how others wouldn’t enjoy the sweetness of the beer.

Bijna zwart bier met rode gloed. Niet veel schuim. Aroma van geroosterd mout, caramel, bessen, framboos. Smaak is prima, maar verdwijnt snel. Waterig, geen body.

Pours black with a medium tan head that quickly dissipated. Aroma is roast, peat, smoke and caramel. Taste is sweet with some light bitters. Medium bodied, smooth. Better then it’s rated, solid schwarz

Dark black pour. Little aroma. Head does not linger. Not as bitter as color would make you think. Actually not bad and drinkable for a dark beer.
