Bottle. Amber/brown, decent brownish head. Roasted malt aroma with vegetable notes. Malty flavor, fruity notes,a bit sourish, roasted and with some vegetables. Bitter finish.

Aug 12, 2008 Bottle, 5.3%. Sweet dark malt aroma, slightly roasted with a hint of black liquorice. Clear very dark brown colour, hint of red. Small light brown head. The flavour is roasted with a little sweetness. Hint of brown sugar. Quite good, but a little more alcohol might have taken care of the slight grain note in the aftertaste.

Aug 5, 2008 Pours the deepest mahogany-prune into the glass, with a diminishing off-white head that leaves trace lace. Aromas are weak, but predominate with roasted malts. Some roasts in the flavor, some dry malts, but with such lively carbonation levels and thinning mouthfeel, I never really get any "substance" to this Schwarz. Pretty much dry and roasted characters in the finish, but brings out a weird metallic contingency. It drinks cleanly enough, just not a lot of distinguishing aspects.

Aug 4, 2008 not bad, its got some mild flavor even for a dark beer, the palate is a touch thin and the malts are not too heavy but its well worth your time.

Aug 4, 2008 1 qt growler. Pours a deep dark brown with almost amber highlights and a very frothy tan head with great retention and lacing. Aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate and caramel malts. Very pleasant. Flavor it rich, with hints chocolate and coffee, but not enough to dominate. The after taste is of burnt coffee. There are lots of roast and sweet notes. Very smooth and full. This so far has been my favorite from the Saranac label.
