Brewed to pay homage to our founderís homeland, our German-Style Schwarzbier is brewed true to style with a deliciously sweet malty flavor. It may be dark in color but itís not heavy on roasted flavor like most people expect in a dark beer. BEER STYLE: Bavarian Black Beer MALT: Two-Row, Caramel HOPS: Mt Hood, Hallertauer ABV: 5.3%

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2011 Bottle. Poured very dark muddy brown with a small (less than 1 finger) light brown foamy head that was fully diminishing and had poor lacing. The aroma was that of a roasted bread malt, a mild resin hop and a mild sweet yeast with notes of coffee, chocolate, molasses and a hint of dark fruit. The taste was malty and mildly sweet with a note of chocolate in the beginning then became slightly bitter with a note of dark roasted coffee and a touch of dark fruit at the end. The flavor was left to linger an average duration on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was just a tad beyond medium in body and rather creamy in texture with a flat carbonation. Overall a smooth easy to drink brew that was quite flavorful and left and very satisfying aftertaste that lingered on the taste buds, but not for to long.

12 oz bottle from the sampler case. Tastes nice, with a hint of charcoal and black leaf tobacco. A nice addition to the Saranac family.

Pours cola brown with a medium light tan head. Aroma is caramel, deep malts and something slightly buscuity. Taste is not that heavy with some caramel sweetness and some easy pilsener bitterness. The malts kinda round it all out. Easy to drink schwarzbier, but not super complex.

Chewy first taste. A bears ass for sure. It's a bit watery, but true to the label it's not too malty. No after taste. No memory to encourage a repeat. ---Rat via Beer Buddy for iPhone

At the Loop Hotel with Hrabren, visnja666v and Goran (thanks guys!).
. Blackish, extremely dark amber really. Dull sweet aroma, raisins. Light, light creamy, raisiny taste, more sweet than dry. Vague soapy notes, pollen. This is awful for a Schwarzbier and just an average Dunkel, below average even. There is ABSOLUTELY NO reason to import it here. Useless and way too expensive (again, here).

0.33 at Loop hotel, Folka. Dark brown with small head. Raisin, malts, dry figs, maybe some chocolate, caramel. Light body, roasty bitterness, malty taste. Watery. Not good.
