This is a spectacular brew. I feel like I am drinking a candy bar! Not the kind of beer you can get shitty on though, have one and enjoy it.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a dark copper red brown. Medium head. Aroma is amazing caramel notes. Yummy if u like caramel. Some roast malt too. Taste is medium light sweetness. Medium light bodied. Light bitterness. Creamy palate. This centered around caramal malts and caramel flavoring. And it does a pretty good job giving that. It wonít blow your socks off but is very solid. Easy to drink. Ends kind of abrupt. And oldie but goodie.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle. Pour is a dark brown with no head. Aroma of caramel and vanilla. Mouth has a nice mild bitterness up front along with the malty flavor and the finish is big with caramel. A little on the sweet side. Not too bad but not really something I would sit down and drink a few of.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
If you know me you know I have a sweet tooth and tend to love dessert themed beers. Youíd think Saranac Caramel Porter would be right up my alley, and while itís a decent beer, itís really not quite as good as the name implies.
I poured a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass.
Appearance: Opaque dark brown body. Forms a small, off white, soapy head which mostly dissipates and doesnít leave much lacing on the glass.
Smell: A familiar caramel candy scent, but not quite as sweet. Thereís a generic porter aroma at the core, but itís subtle - as is the entire nose for that matter.
Taste: Thereís a strong caramel flavor right away, followed by mild bitterness through the middle, a mild nondescript sweetness and then more caramel before washing away clean. But this is only true of the first swig or two, afterwards it all homogenizes together so that the palate ends up tasting like a strange hybrid between flat diet soda, iced coffee, and American porter. And itís not that it tastes bad, itís that it just doesnít finish nearly as strong as it begins. More emphasis of the genuine porter style would probably help offset this imbalance. As it stands itís a bit messy and disorganized, but still tastes good enough to appreciate.
Drinkability: Saranac Caramel Porter walks a fine line between overt dessert beer and a standard porter with additional flavoring added. The mouthfeel is slightly thin and a bit tepid, which enables easy drinking. The flavor is seemingly strong, but your palate gets used to it quickly. Thereís a slightly dry/slightly cloying aftertaste, but itís tolerable. I definitely has a lot of body for being only 5.4% ABV.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Poured from bottle. Big caramel aroma which is great at first, but is a negative in the end. Caramel and roasted nut flavors work well together. Also a touch of vanilla. Somewhat thin feel. Unique, not bad.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark with a light tan head. Smooth, sweet, malty with earthiness and bread flavors. Slightly tart and herby. A little too much dark fruit and woodiness.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured a nice ruby rusty brown with a soapy tan head that faded too fast. Smelled of salty smoky caramel not real sweet. Was hoping for a sweeter darker smell. Bitter burnt malt taste. A little coffee and burnt caramel come in the middle. Sour vanilla aftertaste. Not a bad porter but definitely not a great one. $7.99 for six isnít bad. Was looking for a sweeter darker more porter like look and taste. Will enjoy these 6 but probably not buy again. Breckenridge vanilla porter is the best sweet porter in my opinion.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark reddish brown with a frothy head. The caramel taste and aroma really stand out in this beer as you would expect from the name. Very sweet with roasted maltyness. Medium bodied, slick, and average carbonation.
