Saranac Caramel Porter is a robust, flavorful porter reminiscent of a by-gone era. True to brewing tradition, we've used dark caramel malt as well as Fuggles & East Kent Goldings hops for a smooth, yet slightly bitter, roasted flavor. Look for hints of real caramel used in brewing this delicious brew. Enjoy.

Very sweet caramel aroma... first time i have ever smelled anything like this in a beer and I really like it.Nice rich dark color and head. Flavor is also full or caramel with the slightest hop finish. For a porter, the flavor and texture are a little thin, but this is still a wonderful beer. I love caramel and I love this beer. I really pleasant suprise because i donít usually expect much from saranac.

Toffee and caramel aroma. Clear brown pour with a medium, but lasting tan head. Hazelnut coffee taste. Thin mouthfeel. Butterscotch finish. Iím not crazy about butterscotch, but this tastes really good. Iíd say there are probably adjuncts, but if this is natural it is truly spectacular. Way to go Saranac!

UPDATED: MAY 9, 2008 Bottle... This beer rocks!... A sparkling clear, dark mohogany hue. Medium-sized, frothy, khaki-colored head. Mostly, but not fully diminishing. Decent lacework. The aroma is of a Cadburyís Caramello bar. Also, butterscotch and English toffee. Very malty and terrific. Extremely well-balanced beer. Malty with flavorful blasts of caramel, milk chocolate, and a whisper of buttermilk up front. Lightly pungent and lightly bitter hops balance things out nicely on the backside... preventing any annoying or cloying sweetness. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Short, astringent, lightly bitter finish. Excellent brew. Saranac brews a lot of beers and seems to be a very hit or miss brewing company. This beer is a major MaltHead HIT!

Exceptional. Words canít describe how a good caramel porter makes my face smile. This one has bounds and bounds of gummy caramel flavor, especially on the aftertaste. Nice work, but maybe even slightly off balance with too much? Just my suggestive opinion. Gorgeous color as well. This goes well with almost any dish, and compliments almost any atmosphere. All this said, caramel porters are one of the few porters I like... strange.

Dark brown with tan head. Caramel Aroma. Very sweet overpowering caramel taste then a bit of mild bitterness, followed by sweet caramel again. A bit sweet but I am looking forward to getting this again next year.
