Commercial Description:
Saranac Caramel Porter is a robust, flavorful porter reminiscent of a by-gone era. True to brewing tradition, we've used dark caramel malt as well as Fuggles & East Kent Goldings hops for a smooth, yet slightly bitter, roasted flavor. Look for hints of real caramel used in brewing this delicious brew. Enjoy.

Bottle. Caramel covered popcorn nose. Caramel covered popcorn flavor. Caramel covered popcorn notes. Want to taste a Saranac Caramel Porter and save some change? Eat a twix and wash it down with your favorite 40 oz. Too much weird acidity mixed with caramel. Worth a try, but nothing more.

Bottle. Sweet, candy caramel nose, more than a little strange. Dark ruby-brown body with a sudsy tan head. Taste is initially sweet and oily, doesn’t dry out at all, caramel and medium roast. Caramel as in caramel from malt, but also the melted Werther’s Original’s style. Solid medium body, aftertaste has a little ashtray. Too close to cloying for my liking but has a nice added dimension on top of an otherwise bland (and hard-to-find) porter.

Dark pour with a thin off white head. Aroma is sweet, caramel, light roast and grain. Flavor is sweet and light with a light roast and sweetness. Simple and not much going on and light for a porter.

16th August 2008. Clear dark brown beer. Pronounced toffee caramel - loud and clear! Not that sweet and even a little sourness coming through at the end. Not a subtle beer, does what it says on the label, caramel and more caramel. Drinkable though!

has a bit of a caramel malt aroma, body is seems a bit thin, but creamy. Taste is initial a bit of caramel with a butterscotch aftertaste, not to bad.

Aroma is pure caramel, and butterscotch. The appearance is a lovely dark brown, with a red hue, and a tan head. The flavor is most definitely caramel, butterscotch, chocolate and roasted malt. The finish is purely sweet caramel. medium thickness, sticky. Idon’t care what anybody else says, I like this beer.

bottle - Pours dark brown with a one finger tan head. It has a strong caramel aroma. The flavor is also heavy on the caramel. "Hints of real caramel used in brewing..."? Hints? No, the caramel completely dominates this beer. It’s medium bodied, very sweet, and finishes with some stale bitterness. Huh. I guess it’s okay.
