Saranac Chocolate Lager is a sinfully delicious deep amber lager made with certified organic cacao from Belize. Our brewers looked far and wide for the highest quality cacao to create a smooth chocolaty taste that only comes from the most exclusive cacao plants. We used the roasted seeds of these decadent plants and perfectly paired them with caramel malt and German Hallertau hops to create a malty chocolate sweet flavor. You’ll love savoring this beer with your favorite holiday foods or on its own for a delicious treat!

a pleasant sweet unassuming lighter chocolate pattern that blossoms on the pallet with a sense of caramel. not overdone and a smooth body as well as a mellow malt sense in the roll of foam that finishes with an awakening of hop then smooths out and lingers a bit.

Dark and sweet but not overly chocolately. Pretty mild, a light bitterness lingers in the back of your mouth. Not great, but good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. The color is much lighter than I imagined for a beer with chocolate unless they used white chocolate. It is a light to medium amber-copper with a long lasting silky head. There is milk chocolate on the nose but it is not overwhelming. It is more like caramel malts and biscuit. The body is creamy and light to medium. The taste is more sweet than bitter but the chocolate feels secondary to it. There is a low bitterness at the end.

Bottle from Winter Variety Pack. Light chocolate on the aroma. Husky grains, acidity, and milk chocolate flavors. Lagerish finish. Has potential, but lacks oomph. Very little chocolate character. I get more hazelnut than chocolate. Underwhelming.

Mild chocolate aroma. Poured brown with a fizzy head that lingers. Taste of chocolate and spice. Has a bite and a touch of carbonation.

Poured into a snifter. Dark amber color with thin beige head. Aroma is malty/grainy with some chocolate and smoke. Flavor is not what I expected: sort of peaty and smoky without much chocolate. Light bodied. This is to a scotch ale what a schwarzbier is to a porter or stout. Interesting beer and not bad, but certainly nothing like what I was expecting from a 'chocolate lager'.

Clear golden, minimal head, chocolate aroma, hint of coffee, cocoa taste with slight citrus finish, little rough, subtly delicious ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Better than expected. Pours a clear amber. Has some cocoa/chocolate on the nose and it carries through to the taste. No a particularly heavy beer - wonder why this is a winter ale. Pretty good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A nice lager with semisweet chocolate notes and a well-balanced maltiness. Pours medium brown with a sticky head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a clear amber body with a small fizzy white head that faded pretty quickly. The nose is slightly grainy and husky with a little bit of cocoa nibs. The flavor is pretty prominent with the cacao, but there isn’t a whole lot else going on in here except grainy malt. Light to medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Overall it just tastes a little artificial and one dimensional, like most Saranac.
