COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bitters are popular pub beers in England and are closely related to the more well known pale ales. Saranac Extra Special Bitter has a rich, maltytaste balanced by the pleasant bitterness of Willamette hops. The finish is dry with a hint of the floral english Fuggle and spicy Saaz hop. Enjoy!

Pours a bright, clear bronze with a pillowy off-white head. The nose is of grainy, bready malt and doughy yeast notes with a bit of earthy hops in support. Light to medium-bodied and almost creamy with a quick transition to a lightly astringent and mildly bitter finish. The flavor is of dry, dark bread-like malt with a sold earthy hop backing; more emphasis has been placed on the flavoring than the bittering hops. This is a decent beer. It’s not among my favorite ESBs, but I may have drank it a tad too warm.

ZR2Blazer (87) - Christiansburg, Virginia, USA - MAY 21, 2009
Bottle – Pours medium dark amber, low caramel colored head. I found this to be a very easy beer to drink. The Bitter hops finish clean and leave a nice aftertaste, but not near as strong as other hoppier American Pale Ale’s. For me, this would not be a go-to beer, but it’s a good change.

Bottle... Clear amber ale with orange highlights and a large, frothy, off-white head. Fantastic retention and lacing. Biscuity, soapy nose. Light-bodied and very mildly creamy with lively carbonation. Bitter, toasty flavor and finish.

MrBunn (2457) - The Wet Side of a Dry Town, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 21, 2009
Bottle. Pours a clear copper with a finger or so of head. Aromas of apple juice with a little bit of hops. Astringent alcohol shines through a lackluster body of caramel malt and spice. This just isn’t a very good ESB.
