COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bitters are popular pub beers in England and are closely related to the more well known pale ales. Saranac Extra Special Bitter has a rich, maltytaste balanced by the pleasant bitterness of Willamette hops. The finish is dry with a hint of the floral english Fuggle and spicy Saaz hop. Enjoy!

Really enjoyed this. Redish-Brown colour with a smell of hop and nut. Has a smooth bitterness although the flavour is short and not long lived it goes down very nice.

Bottle. Pours redish-brown with a thinbeige head. Smells hoppy and nutty. Tastes grassy with the hops, and nutty, honey sweet, a little carmely malt, and a smooth bitterness. Carbonation is soft. Pretty balanced between hops and malts and spiciness.

SAR ESB S5L4F3T5O10: Smells strong at first but when I pour it into the glass it goes to a mild sweeter olfactory. Looks like a lighter root beer or iced tea. Tolerable sparkling bitterness on the palate. Almost mild yet strong enough to let you know its beer. Decent esb, bitter linger but not over the top. Almost seems mildly chocolaty at times.

Butters (3320) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 5, 2009
Sampled at the Second Cellar Reduction. Clear dark amber with thin near white head. Nose has a yeasty funk and malt is prevalent, with some spiciness. Flavor is vegetal, and I suppose is trying for a nuttiness, with very floral hop on the tail. As with almost all saranac beers, a watered down version to allow the masses to try a craft brew. Im down with that.

Bottle with Butters at Second Cellar Reduction. Light tan head and amber color. Smell caramel. Sweet and spicy. Nice bitterness for what it is.

bottle from total wine. Rich clear yellow/gold pour wtih a small head. Aroma is very malty. Biscuits, honey and some light spices. Flavor gives in to a lot of malt with very little bitterness. Fair effort.

solid in look and style yet the flavor as again astringent. most saranac that I have have had this strange astringent finish to it. although there is more malt than most others.

Pours gold with a good head. Aroma is a nice spicy hop with sweet malt. Mouth feel is lively with a good amount of carbonation. Flavor is decent with a touch of honey, spice and caramel mixed in. If there were a bit more of the flavor, this would be a high rating. Unfortunately is falls a bit short.
