3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 deprogram (114) - Renton, Washington, USA - JUN 3, 2003
12 oz bottle Well, not a bad hefeweizen from Saranac. Aroma is quite correct, taste is mealy-sweet like a hefeweizen should be. Tad of bitterness and boiling spoil the finish. Not as wheaty, thick, or cloudy as I like my wheat beers. Still, quite unoffensive...
2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - JUN 2, 2003
Medium golden, cloudy yet thin-looking, largish billowy head diminishes quickly. Proper and significant banana/apricot notes in the nose, with some sweetness and yeast. Flavor disappoints though: a nice banana thick fruitiness remains, but overall it's too light and airy and thin to say much to me. Boring finish. Far from the best or worst from this company, but at this point if I had more choice of new beers in VT I could easily never bother trying a new Saranac.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 ToadMan (558) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - MAY 29, 2003
Light color with lots of carbonation, not as much sediment as you would expect. I realy like the aroma, primarily a traditional wheat yeasty smell, but with very discernable bannana and less so but still present clove tones. Taste is much the same, lots of bannana and a smaller amount of cloves blend quite nicely with the yeast. Very smooth, but not the flavor is rather weak, finishes somewhat dry.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 wilkie (1209) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - MAY 6, 2003
Light golden color, foamy with moderate
retention. Smells very yeasty. Slightly hazy.
Has a little hop bite initially and a good hefe
taste to finish. Not the best, but a solid effort
from Saranac. Of course, alconomically, this
beer rocks.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Dorwart (2266) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - APR 11, 2003
Nice think head and decent carbobation. Aroma of wheat, yeast and cloves. Light pale yellow color without much cloudyness that is characteristic of wheat beers. Thin, watery flavor of wheat and maybe a little lemon. Finish is slightly bitter. AN ok wheat beer but I have had much better before.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 gsmitty80 (1593) - Washington DC, USA - MAR 25, 2003
I really enjoyed this wheat beer. It had a flavorful taste of honey and it was nice cloudy and unfiltered as a wheat beer should be. I recommend this highly if you like beers such as JW Dundees Honey Brown and Michelobe Honey Lagar.

I'm not a big wheat fan. This was part of a 12 bottle sampler. Clear golden (some sediment left in the bottle) color. Small white head. Yeasty weissbier aroma. Unlike some of the commentators, I had not trouble tasting the banana. Clove was much more subtle.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 freekyp (1412) - Thomasville, North Carolina, USA - FEB 16, 2003
UPDATED: MAY 30, 2011 Uncomplicated, but solid wheat entry. Not as cloudy as most other hefe’s I’ve had, and the head was minimal and faded away quickly. Banana is very strong in the nose and flavor. The finish is a bit on the watery side, with a lingering banana sweetness.

Wasn't too crazy about this one. Where's the Hefe taste and smell. If this was unfiltered I hate to see what the filtered one looks like. Nothing on the bottom of the bottle. But it's a Saranac product so I wasn't expecting too much.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 jgb9348 (3970) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - JAN 31, 2003
Completely golden in colour, with no sign of being 'unfiltered' or hazy, even though the bottle reports it is unfiltered. A strong smell of a wheat beer, however. The taste is subtle and refined and doesn't span much, but is a decent beer, especially for saranac, which usually produces low-quality beers.
