COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saranac Chocolate Orange is a limited edition small batch brew from our "High Peak" series, a line of beers that are bigger, more complex and flavorful. Brewed as a full bodied robust Baltic-style porter with five different hops and four different malts, this beer pushes the porter style to a new level. We start with generous amounts of chocolate malt and then add blood orange peel. In fermentation, the finest hand-selected purest cacao nibs are added to enhance the chocolate flavor. Look for a dark chocolate roasted flavor finished off with a unique surprise from blood orange peel, making this an extra special treat!

Wow interesting ratings. Thick and chalky chocolaty with a fake orange infusion that made it just seem to be trying to hard. Seconded on the no thanks.

5oz sample at RFD DC pours a very murky black with some creamy, tan head. Nose has some burnt toast, molasses, burnt licorice, some odd citrus, a little couch. Flavor is all sweetness, some chocolate, mild citrus bitterness. Harsh finish. No thanks.

Aroma is dark malts, chocolate and a hint of porter yeast. The flavor is dark malts, fruit, chocolate, mild orange and an acidic/mildly sour finish.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2015 Black pour with a two finger, creamy light brown head. Aroma is roast, chocolate, dry roasted nuts, lactose-like sweetness, orange slice candy, a hint of char and earthy woody notes. Flavor is big roast and sweet toffee, up front, lactose-like sweetness, toasted grains, slightly burnt dry roasted nuts, bitter orange, licorice, dark toasted bread and bitter leafy hops. Heavy body, kinda gloopy feel on entry, quickly drying out and leaving a slightly astringent and chalky finish. Pretty good overall, but I honestly expected much better.

Black pour, nice brown head. Aroma is rich and chocolaty, slightly roasty, flavor is dark chocolate, espresso, and a hint of citrus. Delicious.

(bottle - 22 oz) Dark brown pour with a puffy tan head. Very mild aroma, some light roast and cocoa. Not much orange that I could detect. Flavor is sweet at the start with a nice roasted cocoa flavor and dark malts in the middle. Some light sweetness and citrus bitterness on the finish.

Draft at Madrones in Frederick, MD. Served in a tulip glass, deep dark brown with tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, light coffee, orange peel and fruity note. Taste adds notes of chocolate milk, caramel, dark fruit and earthy hop bitterness. Medium body, low-moderate carbonation, creamy with fruity/ashy finish. Nice imperial Baltic porter with faint orangy backing.

Pours inky brown with a decent head the dissipates but leaves moderate lacing. Aroma of malt and chocolate. About chocolate flavor with slight notes of orange, silliness of a barrel aged beer in the aftertaste. One of the better high peaks releases.

nice licorice and cocoa powerful Baltic type brew, smooth and with a bit of pepper. Laid back by the power of Orange which is not at all strong IE The Orange is not really apparent at first. $8.99 FOR 4 bottles pretenders to the affordable promotion of beer take note.

More on the dark chocolate side, with only a light hint of orange. Pours black with some mocha head and lacing. Toasty and a little sense of astringent orange peel. Medium bitter finish. Thick and creamy consistency. Tap for free at whole foods. Thanks, Mr. Foods.
