Saranac Chocolate Orange is a limited edition small batch brew from our "High Peak" series, a line of beers that are bigger, more complex and flavorful. Brewed as a full bodied robust Baltic-style porter with five different hops and four different malts, this beer pushes the porter style to a new level. We start with generous amounts of chocolate malt and then add blood orange peel. In fermentation, the finest hand-selected purest cacao nibs are added to enhance the chocolate flavor. Look for a dark chocolate roasted flavor finished off with a unique surprise from blood orange peel, making this an extra special treat!

More on the dark chocolate side, with only a light hint of orange. Pours black with some mocha head and lacing. Toasty and a little sense of astringent orange peel. Medium bitter finish. Thick and creamy consistency. Tap for free at whole foods. Thanks, Mr. Foods.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle bought at High Spirits. Little to no head, nice lacing. Not much aroma going on but I kinda have allergies right now. Not much up front, round, robust, smokey middle and nice bitter finish. I wouldn't buy it again but I'm glad I tried it! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a 12 oz bottle shared in Avon NC. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is bold roasted malt with almost a barrel aged character. Flavors of chocolate, a hint of orange and licorice. Nice balance, with the orange and chocolate remaining subtle throughout. Bitter roasted finish.

Bottle shared by Bruce, thanks for the opportunity! Solid dark brown with a stingy off white head. Aromas of milk chocolate and caramel with hints of earth. The flavor is mostly caramel and chocolate with a hint of citrus. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a creamy silky mouthfeel. Not a bad beer, but I would have liked a bit of orange as I found almost none.

From a bottle. Pours very dark brown with a creamy light brown head. Tastes smokey, earthy, ashy, and light orange. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like chocolate syrup, grains, and very light citrus.

Tap at Roasthouse Pub. Pours opaque black with a medium, frothy tan head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is roast and chocolate malt, dates, orange, citrus and pine hops. Flavor is dark malt dominant with light hops and bitterness, dark fruits and a clean, dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Pours a flat black w/ no head or lacing. Aroma is surprisingly subtle w/ maybe a hint of orange in there. The taste is a big chocolate blast upfront & finishes slightly bitter. Itís ok - lacks the uniqueness & flavor complexion I was hoping for.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown body with a small fizzy beige head that retained as a thin film. The nose is pretty decent, lots of thick chocolate malt, some fudge like sweetness, pretty noticeable alcohol, light licorice, and a nice subtle accent of orange peel. The flavor is a little too hefty on the roast for the style, but thereís some nice chocolaty notes that compete. Itís on the sweeter side, but it kinda works with the Baltic Porter vibe. The cocoa and orange peel thankfully are pretty well restrained, coming out just a bit on the finish. Finishes on the warmer side. Full bodied, a little sticky and chewy with some soft gentle carbonation. This isnít bad, pretty well on par with most of the offerings from Saranac. Donít be too fooled by the packing, this is a pretty standard offering from them.

This delicious beer tasted exactly like a chocolate orange. Had a nice frothy head, the strength of this porter will fill you up well with the 22oz bottle it comes in.
