scottw86 (117), New York, USA Mar 5, 2008 Poured a light orange/brownish color with a small white head. Aroma was very sweet with hints of pine and citrus. Taste was very sweet and fruity with some hops. I think more hops were needed to balance out the malt flavor. Taste was creamy as well and lacking the bitter aftertaste of other IPAs.
nimbleprop (594), Washington, Washington DC, USA Aug 25, 2008 Sampled at Brew at the Zoo at the National Zoo in Washington D.C. Pours a transparent, golden orange with a frothy, sudsy white head. Smells great, the aroma reminded me of Bells Hopslam, citrus candies, sweet caramel chews, grapefruits, and pine cones. Flavor was nice too, sweet and sugary, lemon candies, oranges and tangerines. Finish is bitter, but not as bitter as a normal IIPA. I liked this quite a bit, it doesn’t pack the punch of other double IPAs, but it’s drinkable and sweet. KnN (313), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Aug 21, 2008 Pours a really nice red/orange color with a minimal but long lasting white head. Aroma is huge pine hops, but there’s a really funky alcohol/acetone undercurrent which kind of takes away from the smell.
Flavor is huge bitter pine hops, almost no citrus. It’s funny that his says it was brewed with 10 different malts, because the hallmark of a really good Imperial IPA is a malt backbone strong enough to support all those juicy hops, but it really isn’t here with this one. Way to bitter, way to much alcohol burn and just a little too funky overall. Look elsewhere for a good Imperial IPA experience. matt7215 (578), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Aug 15, 2008 12 oz bottle from premier gourmet in buffalo. pours orange with a lsting tan head. aromas of a lot of hopsbut they are mostly grassy, some malt structure but it isnt as solid as id like. the flavours are ok for an IIPA but this seems to lack in the quality of some of the better IIPA’s. this brew does have some redeeming qualities. its 8.5% abv and has a hell of a hop punch but it suffers from tasting a bit muddled. id buy it again if i could get it locally for the price i paid. Collint (348), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Aug 10, 2008 Bottle from a local harris teeter in greensboro. Thanks to J-tiki. Pours a clear amber with a thin orangish head. hoppy aroma with a hoppy citrus taste. great clean taste, pretty good Beershine (1440), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 6, 2008 Pretty beer: refined amber color and excellent lacing. Rounded, mellow, and balanced throughout but also potent, alcoholic, and strong. An excellent hoppy sipper.
