Big hop flavor with roasted barley and malty sweetness and dark chocolate coming through. WOW this is probably the best beer Saranac has ever made. Ritterkreuz (179), Seneca Falls, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 2, 2008 Pours almost black with a dark tan head, very hoppy, but the malts come through a bit on the after taste, especially the chocolate malt which seems to be a favorite of the Matt Brewing Company. The head is thick and lasts for a long time. Tastes like coffee to me and like chocolate to my wife. Ilove stouts and this one is a good affordable one. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 24, 2007 Pours like motor oil with a brown, five+ finger head that goes slowly to a thin layer and leaving a good lace. Light carbonation and heavy bodied. Black as coal. Nose is roasted chocolate/coffee. Flavor is almost sweet roasted coffee with a bakers chocolate finish and aftertaste. High ABV is hidden. Nice beefy stout. $1.35 for a 12oz bottle from Colonial Spirits, Acton, MA. LooseCannon (927), Norfolk, Virginia, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 23, 2007 12oz bottle. Pours pitch black in color with a dark brown head. Aroma roasted coffee and chocolate. Taste of roasted coffee and dark chocolate with a bitter and brunt coffee after taste. Not a very good Imperial Stout. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2007 After the mess that was their IIPA I wasn’t expecting much, but honestly who can mess up an imperial stout? Black pour, moderate tan head with some lacing and retention. Aroma is chocolate and roast, vague darker fruit notes... but still quite an enticing aroma. Hopping is moderate to low, enough to detect but not enough to overpower. Medium bodied, lightly sweet finish. The Saranac character became apparent by now, helped round out the beer, but also made it come off slightly watery for an imperial stout. Regardless, best beer from Saranac.
