Papsoe (14613), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 27, 2008 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Black and opaque with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of hard roasted malt and dried fruit. Very solid body with plenty of burned malt and almost vinous pruny accents. Also plenty of sweet licorice, coffee and alcohol. Some malt bitterness in the finish. A very straight and well composed Imperial Stout. 190908 emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Sep 26, 2008 Pours a dark black that shows some light. The head is one finger thick creamy and dark tan. The nose was malty, sweet, roasty, soy sauce, chocolate, coffee, molasses. The flavor is roasty, some soy sauce, bitter chocolate, coffee, roasty, some charcoal, a tad thin, crisp, some alcohol. The palate is crisp, has a mild bitterness, warm alcohol. Not as bad as I expected. omhper (12153), Stockholm, Sweden Sep 26, 2008 Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival. Very black, rich firm head. Citric tarry nose. Sticky unrefined body with lots of syerup and licorice. Rough and tarry with fairly low bitterness. A mess. KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark Sep 20, 2008 Black with medium beige head. Nose is sweet with a big bold bite of coffee, its not an amazing killer nose, but its pretty decent. Taste chocolately and sweet. Certainly drinkable and tasty, decent impy. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Sep 7, 2008 nice thick black pour, with a very small tan head. Aroma is alot of roasted malt, and not much else. the flavour is again loads of roasted malt, some licorice, a touch of chocolate, and some coffee. the aftertatse is very very bitter, with an intense burnt malt. meh the mouthfeel is quite wattery though, not the greatest imperial stout ive had. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 19, 2008 Enjoyed on tap at the Tap and Mallet. Black with good lacing. Coffee, and chocolate. A good blend. Buttery mouthfeel. Not too bitter, rated 50 IBU. thejoeshow (232), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Aug 17, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a completely opaque brown/black with a very long lasting tan head that laces wonderfully. Nose is malty chocolate, roasty, coffee and there is a bit of astringency in there as well. Nice coffee, really roasted flavor with a little burnt characteristic in there as well. Mouthfeel is oily and lasting, very full. Nice Imperial Stout and one of the best from Saranac.
