Commercial Description:
Mt. Marcy, Skylight, Algonquin...Majestic Adirondack High Peaks - They are the inspiration for our "High Peaks" series, a line of beers that are bigger, more complex and flavorful; beers that are meant to be sipped and savored. The second in our series, Saranac Imperial Stout, is brewed with eleven malts to balance a delicious chocolate and coffee roasted flavor with the spicy herbal character of the generous kettle and dry hops. At 50 IBU's this beer captures the essence of the Adirondacks. Enjoy!

Opaque, nearly black body beneath a thin off-white head. Aroma of licorice with hints of chocolate and toffee. Some fruity notes, figs mostly and a little cherry. Some light toffee and roasted barley flavors come through also. Middle of the road for an Imperial Stout, but top of the line for a Saranac.

Enjoyed on tap at the Tap and Mallet. Black with good lacing. Coffee, and chocolate. A good blend. Buttery mouthfeel. Not too bitter, rated 50 IBU.

12 oz bottle. Pours a completely opaque brown/black with a very long lasting tan head that laces wonderfully. Nose is malty chocolate, roasty, coffee and there is a bit of astringency in there as well. Nice coffee, really roasted flavor with a little burnt characteristic in there as well. Mouthfeel is oily and lasting, very full. Nice Imperial Stout and one of the best from Saranac.

Bottle in trade from the artist formerly known as Degarth. Thanks man!
Pours dark black with a lasting nice sized tan head. Smell is sweet, malty roasty and chocolatey. Taste is bitter, a bit burnt, slightly tart, and charred roasty malt. Semi rich body with medium carbonation. Bit of an odd metallic tartness to the finish that I could do without. Otherwise, this would be solid, but this really hinders the flavor.

Near black color with a taller tan, small, bubbled head. Lots of dark caramel aromas. Hints of dark chocolate, brown sugar, vanilla and hints of hops and resin. Big sweet roasted malt start. Lots of scorched malt and mild coffee flavors. Flavors seem to thin out after time. If you like roasted malts, this is the one for you. Quite mild in feel for the heft; and not much alcohol detected. A dark strong roasted malt brew. Much more than I expected.
