Pours brown. Nose is sweet malt, maple syrup, some earthy wood notes. Flavor is roasted malt, sweet maple syrup, sap, caramel and earthiness. I really like this a lot.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle, pours a semi-translucent dark brown color. Head does not stick to the sides of the glass at all. Aroma is sweet with hints of maple and toffee, also kind of roasty. Not as much chocolate aroma as other porters. Taste is sweet with a little bitterness to balance it out. Palate is smooth but a very full body and nice sweet aftertaste.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
I enjoyed this beer while they made it. It was a solid porter with a hint of bitterness and some caramelly roasted flavors as well. The maple was not overpowering and well placed.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Had this one on Thanksgiving 2001 (part of the 2001 12 beers collection), laid one down, and haven't seen this style since. I hope it isn't "retired". Pours dark amber/brown, with a nice head. Intense maple aromas. Hints of chocolate, strong maple syrup (not real sweet though), and caramel. Slightly watery, not as rich as I'd like. Finish is maply, and slightly tart. Unique style.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours deep ruby brown with a beige head. Sweet malty aroma with some roasty hints and light notes of maple syrup. The flavor has roasted malt and sweet malts, with maple syrup and light notes of chocolate. Pretty good. One of the better Saranac beers I can remember.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep mahogany with a thick tan head and oodles of sticky lacing. The nose shows dominant maple syrup with a chocolate powder backbone. Great with food or on its own, Saranacís Maple Porter does a great job of showcasing the maple flavor without being heavy handed. There is a solid easy drinking brown porter underneath the well blended maple aspect, which creates a simple, but pleasing, interplay. The maple lingers into the aftertaste is a good way. Slightly sweet, but not cloying. The roast malts add a bit of tartness that keep you coming back for another sip. Well done!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle pours mahogany with thin light tan head. The aroma is pretty full with maple, mapliness, coconut, brown sugar, prunes and oxidized cherry fruit meat. The taste is much the same with lots of maple syrup, heavy on being maple and less on being syrup, and coconut like chewiness flowing into thin layers of vanilla and prunes.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle. Ruby red-brown color, filtered. Thick beige head. Medium bodied, soft and creamy. A little intense with the nutty caramel maple flavor, certainly dominates the aftertaste. Quaffable and fresh, it is an interesting brew, though the added sweetness is a little too much at times. OK
