Commercial Description:
Our Saranac Oatmeal Stout is lavishly brewed with a delicate balance of the finest Mid-Western grown oats, seven hand-selected hops and our traditional ale yeast. Look for a sweet, dark chocolate and roasted taste in this full bodied stout. Often described as silky and smooth, this delicious Oatmeal Stout is one to remember.

While a good Oatmeal Stout makes for one of my favorite types of beer an average one is really something I’d rather skip, and unfortunately this beer falls in that category. The roasted, chocolaty flavors are here but they fade quickly in this too thin beer.

Used a scotch glass, 12 oz bottle out of a winter mix pack. Poured with just a lacing of head. Blaco, of course but penetratable by light. basically, the only redeming aspect of this beer is taste, which is ok. A good amouunt of bitterness. No taste, no aroma, no palate.

Pours a nice dark brown. Aromas of malts and chocolate. Flavors of oats, slight caramel, roasted malts and some slightly burnt chocolate tones.

Pours a three-finger tan head that fades to a ring leaving a good lace. Medium bodied and light carbonation. Deep almost black amber color. Nose is chocolate. Starts as a bitter-sweet chocolate hops mainly in the background. Finish has some bitterness. 12 oz bottle from their winter sampler 12-pak $9.99, Market Basket Concord, NH.

Malt and bitter chocolate dominated taste. Not a huge beer, quite simple, but still tastey. Nice coloring and aroma, but nothing over the top.

this stout is decent, but falls far short of being a quailtiy representation of it’s class. Has a small palate and a nice maltiness. A better showing for Matts brewing

It smelled like a light whiskey malt. The flavor was light and thin. It was dark roasted and slightly sweet. This dark brown pour was more of an imperital or dry stout in flavor.

Bottle. Pours dark ruby black with tan head. The aroma is very much oats and grains, with some hints of coffee and bittersweet chocolate. The body is surprisingly thin. The flavor is coffee, oats, a bit of sweet malt up front, and some tangy hops (especially in the finish). This is ok, but I’ve had much better oatmeal stouts.
