| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 19, 2005 Give this a reasonable rating considering it was part of a 12 bottle sampler. And as Saranac goes this is about the best of box. Which doesn’ really set it high, just higher than some of the other crap they try to slip in the box. Darkover (1312), Columbus, Ohio, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 16, 2005 From the winter sampler pack. The body is black, but shows plenty of ruby when held to light. The very thin head is light tan colored. The aroma is roasted walnut along with some light coffee and mocha cream. The taste is nasty cheap milk chocolate with some light burnt toast crust. There is a strange finish of day old coffee. Not a very good oatmeal, but not bad either. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Dec 15, 2005 deep brown. tiny head lived less than a second. looks dead. smells nice and chocolatey and like roasted coffee beans. where saranacs sually fail is in my mouth... let’s see...well! actually this kinda hits the spot, it has a fuller body than most of their beers (even in styles that should be fuller). And it does have a nice roasted flavor. I consider this closer to average, I think their other beers are below "average" (average for what I usually want to drink). This is decent, I’m gonna go enjoy it. Ok, it is a bit watery but that roast barley is just hitting the spot now, I can’t knock this too hard. dp (512), uniontown, Ohio, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 12, 2005 12 oz bottle Pours a dark murky brown alm0st black.Has a strong aroma of chocolate with hints of coffee. Has a tender sweet chocolate toffee flavor. Full body and syrupy, with a touch of metal finish. A rather polite stout, not super heavy and subtle flavors. An enjoyable stout.
