| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 18, 2007 12oz bottle. Deep black in color with just a hint of stained-glass red in the bottom. Big and rich up front, with a little bit of a hoppy bite. The full flavored richness quickly dissipates into a watery sweet finish. A pretty good stout by any means, but not exceptional. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Dec 17, 2007 a kinda of a lightish (i won’t say light) oatmeal stout. not meant to offend this is a pretty good beer with adequate flavors. the palate is light -but still ok- and that makes the beer somewhat refreshing. the lower alcohol seems a bit innovative in light of fairly good presentation. this certainly would have a place in a collection because of the full taste, mild bite and refreshing price. beerlord (215), tonawanda, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Dec 16, 2007 Nice roasted malt aroma form a opaque black body with no head. Thin for the style mouth feel lead to a bitter roasted malt flavor flavor with a touch of earthy sweetness. Definatly not a leader but not bad eathier McGarnigle (308), Rochester, New York, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 16, 2007 Bottel dated 9/24/07. Looks like a stout -- very dark with tan head -- and has a slightly sweet stout aroma. The body isn’t heavy enough. As with most Saranac, it’s over-carbonated, and in this case it seems to get in the way of the flavor. Underneath, there’s some coffee/chocolate matliness. But that layer of diet soda fizz on top is a deal breaker for me. JoeMcPhee (5000), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 13, 2007 Dark black beer, sticky off-white head. Aroma is lightly roasty with a fairly prominent acidic note. Some char and heavy roast on the nose. Flavour is charry and coffeeish with a light oatmealy character. The roast is quite intense but the palate is thin giving the beer an astringent flavour. The finish is lightly roasty but short-lived. Meh. yesyouam (589), Fairport, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Dec 12, 2007 Saranac Oatmeal Stout is an opaque, black-by-chocolate brown color with a light brown head that fades to a thin blotch and a bubbly ring. It has decent lacing. The aroma is dark, roasty and very sweet. The hops are just out of reach in the nose and seem piney. Coffee, chocolate and walnuts are implied here. Medium light in body. Sudsy with a tannic finish. The flavor starts off very weak and a bit like breakfast cereal, diggum. It swoops into bitterness-- juniper, french roast coffee and lemon peel are surrounded in a smoky ring of roast and a puddle of molasses. Looks, smells and tastes nice. Put some body in these beers, guys! rocbyter (914), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 11, 2007 Very light aroma, some hints of roasted malts. Dark amber almost black color with a small brown head. Bitter strong malt taste that mallows in the finish. Light bodied for a stout. mribm (419), Hurley, New York, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 10, 2007 Poured a dark black color with a slight ruby hue when held up to a bright light. The tan head faded quickly and left minimal lacing. There was a strong coffee armoa in the taste and nose. There was also a very slight chocolate taste, especially in the finish. It wasn’t bad, however it isn’t something I will remember as a good stout. It could have used a higher ABV and that may have improved it, along with a little thicker body. Overall it was just fair.
