Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 29, 2007 2007 x-mas box...dark brown body, light brown head...roasty malts on the tongue and sweet...thin watery body, some bitterness, not worthy to be called stout...aroma=some brown sugar and malted grains (took forever to suck that in even)....watery body, pleasant but still no stout!...I know you can do better Saranac....just enhance what you already do, refine, and your beer could be divine...take your time, create the sublime morrdt (608), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Nov 28, 2007 Single bottle from the Winter 12 pack. Pours a nice brown color with virtually no head. Aroma is malty and a touch of oatmeal. Taste is roasted and a bit dry, oatmeal is viirtually absent in the taste. Finish is a touch too sharp and easy to forget. This gets a C- in the Oatmeal Stout category. tagz (334), USA Nov 27, 2007 bottle. pours black with little to no head. mild malt and oat aroma. taste brings in a grassy hoppy bitter with an acidic edge. the palate is much too watery for the style. not a stout to remember. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 25, 2007 Nice roasty aroma, perhaps has some volatile olfactory. Vey black in appearance with no head but decent legs. Initially threatend to be bitter but it morphs thru the palate to a sweeter easier to accept brew. Rich and friendly, fun and interesting. Not as viscous as many better oatmeal stouts. Some medium carbonation is present, acceptable for this style. Has a medium bitter linger that fades rapidly after each sip. Cannot hold a candle to Sammy Smiths or Mackeson XXX but certainly holds its ground amongst the other sweet stouts out there. Exceptionally better than Church Brew Hazelnut and Bells Cherry Stout. Perhaps on par with Bells Double Cream, Left hand milk, Sammy Adams Cream and Lancaster milk stout. A rather enjoyable example of a dark beer. Finish leaves an impression of beer with personality but lacks the offense of many dark bitter beers. SSSteve (2049), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 24, 2007 black with a small beige head. roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and caramel aroma. flavor is roasted and dry with a chalky finish. body is little on the light side for an oatmeal stout. no creaminess, no sweetness. . notalush (2628), Denver, Colorado, USA Nov 20, 2007 The first whiff of this beer greets you with a jolt of strong plastic smells, like the beer has been aging for a year in your grandmother’s old tupperware - thankfully, this fades, and you can make out a bit of oats and a faint hint of roastiness - man, this stuff is thin and flavorless - I’m getting watered down, day-old coffee with a hint of artificial sweetener - a little bit of shoe rubber - wow - not very good. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA Nov 20, 2007 It looks pretty decent, but not that good. Lots of large, tan bubbles over a dark, reddish brown body. Mild aroma of roasted malts. I detect no oatmeal. Actually, I detect no flavor. It is so mild, that I can’t tell that I’m drinking a beer. Dry and no sweetness. Bitter finish. Ritterkreuz (179), Seneca Falls, New York, USA Nov 19, 2007 This is another beer available in the holiday pack, it pours an extremely dark brown with a tan head. Though not as good as other sweet stouts I have tried its not bad either.
