| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Dec 17, 2007 a kinda of a lightish (i won’t say light) oatmeal stout. not meant to offend this is a pretty good beer with adequate flavors. the palate is light -but still ok- and that makes the beer somewhat refreshing. the lower alcohol seems a bit innovative in light of fairly good presentation. this certainly would have a place in a collection because of the full taste, mild bite and refreshing price. obguthr (1083), Poquoson, Virginia, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Apr 26, 2008 Bouquet of cocoa currants, charred oak, with a little diacetyl. Black color, no head. Very sour charcoal and parsley. Charcoal finish. Thin mouthfeel and a poor sample of a style I truly enjoy. Prostman (1077), Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 24, 2005 This was one of the better beers in the Winter 12 pack but still not the best oatmeal stout I have ever tried. desurfer (1069), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 29, 2006 Pours an almost opaque ruby with a thick beige head. Aroma is practically nonexistent; just a bit of sweetness. There’s some roasty malts in the flavor, with some hop twang and oats, but it’s kinda sour and thin. Like most of the Saranac beers, this one is plain and average. jb (1063), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 16, 2005 Updated: Nov 21, 2007Poured dark dark red with a thin head. Caramel, chocolate aroma. Hops and coffee in the palate with a dry finish. Very light for a stout, in fact I detect more stout taste in black and tan and was disappointed by this.
11.21.07 rerate - Drank this much warmer today and it was much better.
Decent head with nice lacing. Appearance was great too, dark, and thick head as mentioned. Smokey aroma along with strong coffee smell along with the chocolate and caramel. Palate is a bit thin but oily the way I like them. Bumped from 2.4 to 3.2 bigrond (1055), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 25, 2006 this stout is decent, but falls far short of being a quailtiy representation of it’s class. Has a small palate and a nice maltiness. A better showing for Matts brewing MrBendo (1053), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Nov 27, 2006 Poured a not quite opaque black with a medium tan head. Aroma of cereal and dark malt. There’s something not quite right about the taste. Tastes too weak for the style. Maybe it’s the old 2005 bottle, or I haven’t recovered from the last fruit beer I rated.
