2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
DATE TASTED: October 25, 2013 ... GLASSWARE: Wychwood pint... OCCASION: unwinding with some pre-Halloween pumpkin!... APPEARANCE: opaque autumn-brown body with a thin off-white head--but zero lacing?!... AROMA: distinct pumpkin waft and lightly toasted malts that take precedent over the pumpkin; spices are soft, subdued...PALATE: slightly warming, medium-bodied balanced ale that sits well in the throat; inoffensive but not impressive...TASTE: malty; solidly built with a slightly suggestive pumpkin/spice flavor--modestly autumnal...OVERALL: Situated among other pumpkin bombers and October brews, this beer finds itself slightly below the competition, if only because it offers little truly memorable qualities...not a bad thing, just not much of a thing like waiting for the Great Pumpkin instead of trick-or-treating...

This brew is ok. For the 3.99 I paid for a 32 ounce growler it is a decent beer with a decent price. I am seeing more and more that you get what you pay for with seasonal pumpkin beers!

Transfer from BA review on 10-15-12-
Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance – Pours an amber-orange color with a one finger white head. The head faded relatively fast to leave only a light amount of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is sweet and is big of pumpkin and caramel. Mixed with these aromas are a strong presence of pie spices; nutmeg, cinnamon, and allspice.
Taste – The taste begins of a roasted pumpkin and malt flavor. There is a lighter caramel upfront which fades as the taste moves on. More toward the middle of the taste come bready flavors as well as nutmeg and allspice. These take the flavors to the end where a cinnamon spice joins the flavors leaving a drier spiced pumpkin flavor on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is average in terms of creaminess as well as carbonation. The lack of a thick body, while not great for the roasted flavors, is rather nice for creating a crisper finish to the brew.
Overall – An alright pumpkin brew. It is on the slightly drier side with an easy drinking flavor profile.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a fairly nice hazy orange to brown color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light lacing sliding into the beer.
The smell had a nice blend of sweet roasty pumpkin with some light nuts and vanilla, clove, and cinnamon.
The taste was sweet and spicy with a nice touch of roasty/nutty vanilla.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was good for the style and for me.
Overall pretty good pumpkin ale always worthy of coming back if available.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
It has a deep amber color with very good clarity. Its head is thin, white in color and fades quickly leaving a few bubbles on top and no lacing. A strong spicy aroma hits you in the nose. Cinnamon and clove are the stand out spices. Wow this starts off with a big spicy kick in the mouth. Allspice, bitter cinnamon and clove overpower the malt that has some toasted and caramel notes. The pumpkin flavor is really hidden deep under the spicy character of this beer. A more apt name for this beer would be Saranac Spice Ale. The spicy character fades off a touch and hop bitterness picks up before slowly fading off into the finish. Its palate is smooth and slick with mild carbonation inside its medium body. Overall it’s a little bit too unbalanced on the spicy side.

When is poured a red brown beer is seen, some aromas are felt but those stronger ones are the grass, citrus, earthy, banana, ginger and bread. When is tasted the pumpkin flavor aren’t felt at all, and it just give you the idea of a regular Ale. Not a fan of this beer in particular, but at least it follow the rule of the ales and to be honest is better in a normal temperature.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
32oz bottle from Total Wine in Cary. Orange hue, normal clarity with mostly diminishing white head. Virtually no lacing. Mostly cinammon and nutmeg on the nose. Medium bitter spice up front, some pumpkin on the finish, but mostly spice. Kind of boring compared to most other pumpkin beers. May have gone past it’s prime. I think I bought this in Sept of 2013.

A: Pours a browned orange ale with under a single finger of off-white soft foam, this ale leaves some spotty lacing. Near excellent clarity.
S: Squash, cinnamon, nutmeg and a sour cream smell.
T: A slight cherry flavor with some sweet malts. The cinnamon is pretty strong here to me.
M: medium bodied with lively carbonation. wet finish.
O: Pretty middle of the road for me. Not bad, nothing special. The cinnamon was too strong here for me.

Bottiglia 355ml @cantinone.
Ambrata scura con schiuma abbastanza persistente.
Niente di speciale, ricorda un po' una birra alla frutta, ciliegia in particolare.

Not an obnoxious pumpkin flavor or ton of spices. Enjoyable. I would get it again. Price not too bad
