bendz1 (86), Ankeny, Iowa, USA Jan 1, 2007 Better than the Rogue Smoked Ale, this one has less smokey flavor and more nutty flavor. A smokey beer I could enjoy. beastiefan2k (1085), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Nov 1, 2006 You know it is a really good discription. The only time I get any smoke is in the aftertaste and even then its pretty light. Otherwise, at first it comes off as your regular lager. 12 oz bottle out of the mix pack. Light amber orange with no head and some lacing. Aroma is basic empty lager. Taste is acctually no that bad. Has a decent amount of sweetness to it and a slightly smokey aftertaste. Again, for what Saranac is trying to do its fine. And only because I love smoke do I rate it this high. But really guys pick up the smoke, the Scherlanka Helles had more smoke. Sregnar35 (650), Rotterdam, New York, USA Oct 31, 2006 Poured a nice amber orange with a lasting head. Aroma was faint, but smokey and sweet. Flavor very mild, a sweet tangy mix with a bit of smoke left to linger. DocLock (4083), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 17, 2006 Medium copper pour here, with an aroma that is tart caramel malty. The rauch flavor is subdued, with some fruit. Medium to light palate. The rauch is so subdued in this that it tastes more like a fruity APA. Not bad, but not what i was expecting. DandyWolfFloyd (225), Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA May 13, 2008 I heard a lot about smoked beers, and I have to say this was not entirely what I expected. It’s aroma was distinctley malt, not so roasty as I expected. It was a coppery color, with a thin slice of white head. It’s flavor was malty for sure, with some smoke, but not much. It’s smooth, a nice session, but not what I expected. It’s average.
