3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Medium gold, minimal head. Quite bitter, especially the first sip. Floral nose. Medium-bodied, very bubbly, soft mouthfeel. Very hoppy, has a peppery aroma and some malt sweetness with a bitter finish.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a hazy golden burnt orange color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light lacing speckling along the sides of the glass.
The smell had a light tropical citrus and then a light caramel malt to blend inside of a light rye malt to spice.
The taste carried over the sweet to bittersweet to lightly spiced rye.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. There’s a light spicy rye to indicate a light tingling harshness over my tongue.
Overall, decent rye IPA I think I could do again if I ever saw it but probably not one to necessarily seek out.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Transfer from BA review on 8-28-13-
Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a golden-amber color with a two finger white head and tons of carbonation bubbles seen streaming up through the brew. The head has a good level of retention slowly fading over time to leave a moderate level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The smell is a mix of rye bread and some aromas of sweet caramel. Mixed with these aromas are some moderately strong aromas of grapefruit and floral hop.
Taste – The taste begins with a bready and lighter rye taste upfront. There is a very small amount of caramel upfront but this fades very fasting leaving a rather dry and bready taste overall. With the drying out of the brew, so too comes the hop. Initially there is a little bit of a grassy hop taste which grows stronger as the flavor advances to the end. Along with the grassy hop so to comes some grapefruit and a little bit of a floral hop flavor. The grapefruit hop grows the strongest at the end leaving a light rye bread and moderately hopped dry taste on the tongue
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average to slightly above average side. Both were appropriate for the style and matched the flavor profile rather well.
Overall – An OK rye, although a little light on the rye and a bit too on the drier side for me.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
It has a light amber body with very good clarity. The head is just off white in color, tall and foamy. It has a good two finger thickness which hangs on well and makes lots of nice lace patters on the glass. The aroma has a mellow hint of dark rye bread and very mild hops. The flavor has a light bready malt base with mild clover honey like sweetness that lets the flavor of the rye come through. Spicy and dry leafy hop flavor comes in close to and into the finish which also has a balanced hop bitterness lingering for a while. Its body has a good medium feel with just enough soft carbonation, Overall the Saranac Rye IPA has very good balance of flavors but I think hop heads will be looking for a little more hop flavor. Still, I feel that this is a wonderful beer and a very drinkable Rye IPA.

1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
This is one of the least impressive Rye IPAs I’ve had. The rye is nearly invisible. So is the IPA come to think of it.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle: golden with a small white head. Aroma of slight pine... Taste is slightly spicy and slightly piney... It’s a slight disappointment if you haven’t figured that out yet. So many great rye.p.a’s out there... This is not in the top ten.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A pale golden body with a white head that has good retention and nice lace. Aroma had a mild resin notes, some peppery rye-like aromatics. Flavor had some nice bitterness and there was a mildly sweet malt note to it. Finish was slightly spicy and dry.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle. The pour was a clear golden amber with an average (1-2 finger) white frothy head that reduced to a large puddle and small collar with good streaky lacing.
The aroma was kind of mild with a light grain and bread malts, grassy hops and an earthy yeast along with a note of caramel and a slight rye spiciness.
The taste was lightly malty with a hint of a caramel sweetness in the beginning, maturing slightly with a mild hoppiness and a light rye presence right at the end. The flavor was average in duration with a light spicy bitterness lingering for only a short while.
Mouthfeel was light in body with a watery and mildly dry texture and a lively carbonation.
Overall this brew had very little rye flavor and just a light bitterness which pretty much made it an OK brew, but really nothing special...

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Leftovers from a party: Pours copper with a white head. Aroma is slight rye and a bit of hops. Taste is bland. It is underwhelming in every way. Tasted like a watered down rye IPA. Pointless.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear medium copper color with a good head that stays as a cover, heavy cobwebs of lace. Taste is un-sweet malt (probably the rye) that blooms and sweetens a little through the palate, yielding in the finish to medium hops. The hops are quite visible, but not dominant. A good-tasting, well-balanced brew, easy to drink. Recommended.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
9/02/2013: Saranac Rye IPA... Smells grainy with and off soapy/floral hoppiness; dirty pale golden color with a fluffy off-white head; rye bread crust up front with a decent level or rye spiciness and quite a bit of spipcy/herbal/soapy-floral hops and an above average amount of bitterness (for the style); medium-bodied, well-carbonated; meh, it’s okay - I didn’t really like it at first even though I really like rye, but it grew on me a little, although it isn’t that great (pretty much my expectation for most Saranac beers). [12 fl. oz/ bottle from Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield, Ohio.]
