Bottle. Very faint hop aroma. Seemingly clear amber colour. OK stable creamy tan head. Mild flowery hop flavour. Creamy mouthfeel, must be the rye. OK bitter finish, more aroma hop.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a mild, white head. Some earthy hops and caramel in the aroma. Light sweetness in the flavor, then mostly bitterness. Grassy, piney, earthy bitterness with a somewhat muddled, plastic finish. Light to medium in body with lively carbonation and slight alcohol. Some roastiness in the finish as well. The odd aftertaste seems to diminish as the beer warms a bit. Not bad.

Bottle from the Folsom BevMo. Pours gold with a creamy slight white head. Aroma of must and herb. Med body. Flavor is rye spice with some floral and arguably noble hop. The rye persists into the finish, and frankly is all that saves this ale that was otherwise crafted with less than required ingredients.

12oz bottle. Small white head atop crystal clear amber body. Aroma is mild, medium sweet, grapefruit/pine, light caramel. Taste is medium sweet, grapefruit/pine, some apricot, caramel. Light-medium body.

Bottle poured a clear golden amber with a lasting ivory head. Aromas of rye, earthiness, spicy hops and pine. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of rye, earthiness, spicy hops and light pine with a crisp dry lingering bitter rye finish.

12 ounce bottle from the winter sampler. Pours a clear golden color with a moderate sized head. Poor head retention and fair lacing. Aroma is very faint... caramel, spicy rye and leafy hops. All very faint. Taste is fruity hops with rye and a bitter hoppy finish. Fruity throughout. Medium bodied.

Pale straw colour with a thick sticky white head. The nose is quite fresh and spicy. The rye is really expressive in here, coming through as a really light, zesty spiciness. The palate is a bit light and slightly citrusy. Zesty and lightly citrusy hops that complement the malts pretty nicely. The bittering hops are very underutilized... this feels like 30 IBUs. There is a nice light woodiness as well. I do like it, but it could use about 2X the hops.

Bottle. Spicy orange malt. Golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet orange malt and moderate bitter herbal/quinine flavor. Light body. Didn’t get any rye out of this - disappointing.

I’m a hophead, and this one, procured in 4Q 09 from Pat’s in Pottstown, poured dark brown w off tan white head. Nose was rye malt, hopd, earthy peaty fruit. Fairly balanced palate with rye malt, earthy hops, some fruityt flsavors, and a rich finish. Solid, and a beer I’d like to see FX MAtt produce all year round.

12oz bottle pours brilliant deep gold with copper hues and assertive bumpy light tan head. The aroma has mild levels of caramel malts, sweet malts, some spicy rye, spicy hops and a dash of citrus. The taste begins with a moderately spicy attack from both rye and spicy hops and then picking up a touch of sweet malts. By midway and to the finish a dash of grapefruit hop bitterness, spicy hop bitterness play second fiddle to growing rye spicy goodness.
