Dacrza (136), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA Feb 19, 2008 Don’t have a thistle yet, so I’ll point out this was consumed in a snifter... reddish-brown transparent body with a substantial frothy white head that fills out the glass quite adequately... moderate effervescence... first notice in the nose is of malt; secondary aromas are of burnt something--nondescript otherwise... smooth--too smooth? a bit of energy at the finish; mellow overall... intense rush of malt and a hint of hops at the finish; little or no notes of alcohol... as a sampler, the ale’s not bad... substantial presence but not smokey enough to satisfy the scotch part of the scotch ale, unfortunately...
timsilvia32 (116), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Jul 20, 2008 Poured amber. Cream head. Kind of malty aroma. Sweet, but not malty sweet in the mouth, a little toffee and caramel. Dry finish, which is good since the flavor is not ideal. Confusing what they were trying for, not very good. Probably shouldn’t even be considered a scotch ale. Hance07 (170), DownSouth, Georgia, USA Jun 14, 2008 Pours a copper color with a small offwhite head. Flavor is slightly sweet malt with just a hint of smokiness in the finish. Not bad but not great either. VTHopHead (640), Barre, Vermont, USA Jun 1, 2008 Bottle - Poured a clear copper-brown in color with a medium light tan head. Aroma was malty and slightly sweet with a hint of smoky peated malts in the background. Flavor is slightly sweet also with hints of fruit and a mild smokiness. Not bad, but only an average Scotch ale. Haslinger (464), Syracuse, New York, USA May 16, 2008 Bottle from the Winter mixpack, aroma is nothing special with a hint of malt but thats about it, a bit of fruit in the initial taste but that quickly fades to a metallic almost medicinal taste. Not good. Leaves a bad aftertaste in your mouth. Would not buy again Immy (1477), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA May 13, 2008 12 oz bottle. Clear copper with a tan head that disappears rapidly. Malty, slightly metallic nose, very light peat smoke. Nice lace, light to medium body. Marginal taste, sweet caramel and wisps of peat smoke. Another whatever from Matt.
