3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A really great looking, auburn appearance. Decent sized head. It wasn't anything special once it hit my mouth but it was satisfying. All around a pretty solid beer.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Some light caramel and faint nut in the aroma. Medium copper-brown color, with a lasting, creamy head and pretty good lacing. Light on flavor, again nutty with suggestions of caramel sweetness, perhaps some extremely vague herbal hop flavors towards the finish. Smooth, creamy palate and light-medium body. A little dull considering its unusual style.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Off white head--small. Slightly nutty and malty aroma. Moderate body, slight malt flavor. A little syrup-like, but fairly good.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear bronze appearance with a nice head. Aroma was non-descript. Well hopped flavor with an earthy, medium-bodied mouthfeel. Clean, dry finish.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Fine for what it is... a mediocre brown ale, without the complexities of true winter brews.

Mine was subtitled "Nut Brown Lager". Certainly hits that mark, to the extent there is such a mark. Nice fruity light caramel malt flavor. Good head retention and clarity. Well made, though perhaps nothing stunning. Easily the best from this decidedly MOR brewery.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle, lager glass, 55 degrees F. Tall, frothy, rocky, off-white head is slowly diminishing (leaves great lacing) and sits on a deep brown-red body with heavy carbonation. Caramel, cookie, pecan malt (M); flowery hops (L); light toffee aroma. The aroma is pleasant if not a bit weak and sharp. Moderately sweet flavor becomes a lightly sweet, lightly bitter finish. There's some sour notes in the flavor which detract from this otherwise tasty, but humble, brown lager. Medium-full body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: more flavor and no sour notes and this would be a real winner, but as it stands it's mearly middle of the pack.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Brown with no real head. Hoppy aroma. Thin, but a decent taste for a lager. (This is a lager right?) Nothing special.

Saranac 12 Beers undated package (purchased 12-02): No nuts; brown; probably a lager. Hard to imagine what coal in the stocking could bring.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Slightly nutty, some malt, pretty light aroma. Was a clear dark amber, moderate tan head. Similar flavor profile, grainy malt aftertaste. Thinner body. Typical Saranac, nothing offensive, but lacking on most fronts.
