COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Limited Release. 100% Scottish Maris Otter malt was used in the brewing. The combination of the scottish malts and slow aging process produces a unique brew as distinctive as single malt whiskey with a subtly different taste than any other beer. Look for a sweet malty taste with a backround of floral notes from english fuggle hops. To not be confused with the Scotch Ale that Saranac sells.

Looks good. Off-white head, decent lace, medium amber. Malty aroma with a barely noticable hint of sweat. Slightly watery but still somewhat sticky. Malt prevails throughout with a lingering sweetness.

Clear amber body with light tan head. Aroma is sweet and caramel malty. Taste is sweet up front, caramel malty -- just like youíd expect in a Scottish ale. The finish has some earthy bitterness that combines nicely with the sweetness. Medium body.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2003 transparent amber in color with a nice big head..the aroma was whiskey sweet and malty..the flavor was very malty, with whiskey notes, some vanilla and slight smoke..I also think this is one of saranacs better brews

Whatís this all about? Hmmm...flat affect, scotch color, doesnít measure up to most "Scottish Ales" but has a nice punch of malt. Great if you want to know what Maris Otter malts taste like. Lack of balance and anything interesting after the first sip.

Has a weird musty, burned hair type of smell. Appeared golden-caramel with a slight bit of haze and a smallish head. Not much to speak of in the taste department, because I think I specifically tasted water. As you may be able to guess, the finish was very watered-down and lacking any kick. Not much to this.

Of all the beers in the Saranac 12 pack, this one intrigued me the most. Itís not going to jump out and grab you, but itís subtle and different from just about anything else that Iíve had. The aroma was a little funky. Beer is dry, biscuity, Otter-nutty and Fuggles for sure. Liked the label. A little sweet on the backend.

Aroma - closest thing I can think of is baby diapers! But the taste makes up for it. Quite a complex flavor to it - hard to put into words. Looks like a single malt scotch - high marks for appearance in that regard. Many complex flavors - hard to pinpoint - kind of a spicy thing going on. Had better from Saranac - but I compliment them for branching out into so many styles.

Light amber body with a thick amber head, this brew has a light scotch whiskey aroma mixed with a moderate musky malt aroma. The flavor fairly reflects the aroma but is even blander. A dissapointing scotch.

Not quiet as special but it is unique. Bit too flat, not really exceptional in taste or palate.
