Very good beer (as are most of Saranac’s).

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2003 transparent amber in color with a nice big head..the aroma was whiskey sweet and malty..the flavor was very malty, with whiskey notes, some vanilla and slight smoke..I also think this is one of saranacs better brews
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Nuffield (3362) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - JAN 3, 2003
What’s this all about? Hmmm...flat affect, scotch color, doesn’t measure up to most "Scottish Ales" but has a nice punch of malt. Great if you want to know what Maris Otter malts taste like. Lack of balance and anything interesting after the first sip.
1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20 Steak (124) - New York, USA - DEC 28, 2002
Has a weird musty, burned hair type of smell. Appeared golden-caramel with a slight bit of haze and a smallish head. Not much to speak of in the taste department, because I think I specifically tasted water. As you may be able to guess, the finish was very watered-down and lacking any kick. Not much to this.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Aurelius (3457) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - DEC 28, 2002
Of all the beers in the Saranac 12 pack, this one intrigued me the most. It’s not going to jump out and grab you, but it’s subtle and different from just about anything else that I’ve had. The aroma was a little funky. Beer is dry, biscuity, Otter-nutty and Fuggles for sure. Liked the label. A little sweet on the backend.
3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 PorterPounder (4631) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - DEC 27, 2002
Aroma - closest thing I can think of is baby diapers! But the taste makes up for it. Quite a complex flavor to it - hard to put into words. Looks like a single malt scotch - high marks for appearance in that regard. Many complex flavors - hard to pinpoint - kind of a spicy thing going on. Had better from Saranac - but I compliment them for branching out into so many styles.

Light amber body with a thick amber head, this brew has a light scotch whiskey aroma mixed with a moderate musky malt aroma. The flavor fairly reflects the aroma but is even blander. A dissapointing scotch.
2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 LordNeuf (135) - Acton, Massachusetts, USA - DEC 14, 2002
Not quiet as special but it is unique. Bit too flat, not really exceptional in taste or palate.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 stephen (308) - California, USA - DEC 11, 2002
Scottish 60/- style. Slightly sweet. Not much by way of hops or aroma. Thin and boring. Still a drinkable session or "convert to good beer" beer.

I liked it but expected more from it. Saranac needs to quite worrying about mainsteam beer drinkers and make something that stands out in every kind of there beers.
